Is Keefe the right coach for this team at this time.

Torts absolutely schooled Keefe in the playoffs. He is a nice guy but he is at another level. Players like to play for him....because Keefe does not crack the whip so to speak.

The leafs need a guy to push them. The talent is there handsdown to win it all. But someone needs to push them like a Torts/Keenan type coach that wont take any crap from the youngin's.

Is Keefe on a short reign if he fails in the playoffs again?

What are your thoughts?

Did Torts really "School" Keefe, or did Torts just get unbelievable goaltending? I thought Cassidy "Schooled" Babcock much worse in back-to-back years (Gauthier on the ice with 5 minutes left in game 7, ugh).

Leafs were at a 103 point pace with all those injuries and terrible goaltending. I don't know how anyone can knock him so fast.

I'll take him over the typical recycled coaches.

Did Cassidy “school” Babs or did Cassidy just get unbelievable goaltending ?

you should contemplate this for a few months and then get back to us .

Getting back to the thread , Keefe is safe as long as his BFF is the GM , which could mean they’re both gone at the end of this year if they miss the playoffs again .

Far too early to say. We had a spectacular first 20 games under him, which sometimes happens just from the freshness of change, and things kind of evened out for the remainder of the season, but he definitely should get some time before this sort of decision is made on his future.

Torts didn't school anyone. Read the following.

In 2018 Rask was actually pretty crappy (only .903 in 7 games). Not close to what Columbus got this year. There were obviously huge blunders Babcock made. Having Hyman take face offs on 1 leg against Bergeron...wow. Marleau TOI in 2019 playoffs...wow. Matthews getting 18 minutes in game 7..WOW.

I suppose nothing can truly be right - be that with management and/or coaching and/or players - until it absolutely is, a.k.a when winning starts? If the reins on Keefe were to become tight though, I don't see how that also wouldn't extend to Dubas and Shanahan. The team fell short during the play-in and changes were subsequently made. We'll have to see where that leads and further evaluate from there.

Wasn't that why they quit on the last guy?

If the "kid gloves" approach doesn't work either, then what ?

Maybe the key is to give them proper usage so the team can win? I think a big oart of the frustration was how he was cocahing, not how "Tough" he was.
Matthews himself was making fun of how pathetic the PP set-up was a year before Babcock was fired. The team did the same thing over and over no matter what..

At this time we aren’t playing any games because it’s the off-season.

Hey another thread, where so called fans crap all over everything that is the Leafs. No patience, no perspective.

None for Leaf fans. They want to panic and trade everyone even though we see teams win cups after spending years of failing and building.

If we had Tampa's team Kucherov would have been headed out the door fast.

Don't forget Marchand making fun of how predictable and bad our PK was in the playoffs.

It's like the saying goes, if at first you don't succeed, deflect the blame and whine to the media about your players not being dedicated enough.

Torts didnt School Keefe at all.

In game 2, Toronto controlled a majority of the play and Columbus had maby 1 good scoring opportunity.

In game 3, it was much of the same until in typical Toronto fashion, they let their foot off the gas and let CLB come back. Thats a player issue, not a coach issue.

games 4/5 are debateable with 4 being pretty bad. Game 5, toronto simply couldnt score

Thats what was so infuriating about Babcock. His last speech to the media as coach after the Vegas loss was "Stick to the Plan and Keep Grinding|". You have to be kidding me!
And why was Babcock having them GIVE UP possession every shift? There was some crazy decisions going on that made it look like the game had passed him by.

Torts didn't school Keefe. Some people need to learn analyze coaching better. Keefe made many adjustments throughout the series. Tortz got better goaltending. Thats the only reason he won.
There is a good argument Keefe outcoached Torts in the series.
Game 1: game was right there until Freddy allowed an awful goal.
Game 2: Keefe made a systematic adjustment, and Torts had no answers.
Game 3: same story as game 2 but Freddy went into melt down mode.
Game 4: bad until Keefe decided to stack the lines which lead to a great comeback.
Game 5: game was even until Freddy decided to strike again.

Leafs completely outplayed the Jackets in that series, and that tells me Keefe was terrific.

What does whip mean? Thats what Babcock did and where did that get us? Also Keefe was pretty hard on these guys throughout the season.
Keenan? You lost credibility with that option.

What dreadful retort in a dreadful thread.

Sigh.
