Is Johansson our 4th long-term/core top-4 D (Mo, Ed, ASP.. AJo?)

The sample size is far too small to draw any conclusions from, but here's a fun piece of trivia:

5 on 5 goals for/against
Johansson (with Edvinsson): 16 goals for, 12 goals against
Johansson (without Edvinsson): 3 goals for, 13 goals against

I think he's an ok 3rd pairing Dman today. With room to improve. He has good chemistry with Ed though and they work well together.

So if Albert is stapled to Simons pair when ASP comes up, I see no issues with it.

We find a stable partner for ASP, split up special teams time between the Dmen and role 3 pairings that eat up 20 minutes a night each.

If Seider, Edvinsson and ASP each anchor their own pairings then our depth on D would be among the best in the league. We would essentially be rolling 3 second pairing D lines as opposed to the traditional 1,2,3 combo.

Or if we want to debate semantics a 1st pair (Seider) and 2 second pairs ( Ed, ASP).

I digress, Albert Johansson has potential and I see him as a core Dman be it on the 3rd pair or in the top 4,.

That this topic can be debated in a very positive way is awesome. If all 4 continue and grow into what we expect add in others that are in GR. It's beyond crazy that if some or all pan out that we will have a lot of options.

Hopefully those options wont make us scream at the TV screen(Petry,Holl) as I need my voice.

I am gonna say, since the return from break, the Ed AlJo pair is letting in more goals than I would like. Would love for them to get back to their western Canada road trip level of play.

I'm assuming these are all under McLellan and not Lalonde?

Tonight will be a good test.
I'm gonna say no. Preferably I'd want someone a little more physical in our top 4 similar to Stuart.
Would be nice if all our guys had that physical edge, but regarding AlJo I won't be too picky considering he's been a nice surprise ever since Lalonde was kicked to the curb.

But yet I was lambasted when I said I'd trade aljo and that edvinsson makes him look better than he is.

Might be time to break these two up actually. Getting caved in for a 5 minute shift was a really bad look last night. They aren't playing all that well these days, continue to be on the ice for goals against. Some aren't their fault, but teams are making it a point to attack this pair, as we shelter the Gus Holl pair.

To be fair, and I'm not even a big fan of Aljo, the rest of his time was spent with Holl and Gus for the most part. Every D on the team would have worse numbers with them as partners. Imagine Holl with a Holl level partner, YEESH!

If he can be a solid 4th-5h-6th defenseman who can be sort of a stabilizer on a pair and do his work defensively, I would be satisfied with that.

Agreed but I'd actually argue that it is Ed who has looked very shaky. He's not taking good routes to the puck, flubbing pucks, and not making great outlet passes.

He looks off mentally. He was a lot more active offensively prior to the break.

As for Aljo he is going to need to continue to work on his strength and skating to be a solid top 4 dman. Right now he is playing up in the lineup due to his chemistry with Ed. He's not someone I'd just plop into the top 4 with just anyone.

Edvinsson clearly makes Al Jo look good and you should be lambasted for suggesting we trade Al Jo.
I never suggested we trade him. I did however say he's not untouchable and he would definitely be a good piece in a trade package.

A lot of people here seem to think you can get upgrades for scraps.
