Is Jim Nill a cap genius or moron?

As long as the cap doesn't suddenly stagnate or fall, it's genius. This is just basic cap economics - in a rising cap, fixed cap hits are invaluable.

I don’t think too many good players on solid deals is ever a bad thing. I think it’s only an issue if the contracts are bad. You can always move someone if need be and there’s lots of time for things to change. Robertson seems like a guy that might get squeezed out depending on his contract demands.

If I was a Dallas fan my logic would be if he can fit the players in why not. Ain’t my money. They are going to be a contender for a long time because he has big balls.

The point is he cant...

In 26-27 he will have 19M to spend on 10 roster spots. That is assuming Harley gets $8 and Robertson gets $9, which I'm sure a lot of us will argue is the bare minimum for those two.

Sooooo someone(s) are going to have to be moved. They may get lucky and its Seguin retiring, but if not, that is all ELC, bare minumum deals that obviously will hurt their current depth tremendously.

I’m sure the the right guy to move will be known by then. He can fit them all now though so who cares. Deal with that when he needs too.

cap genius- buy now and go for a cup. A cup is always the goal, you’re close, go for it.

And do they have any NMCs? I’m just thinkin they could even just sell Robertson or Heiskanen for a boatload. Terrible idea, but they have so many guys they could trade for profit, and someone is gonna have to go. But they could easily recoup picks and get a slightly worse roster player or somethin. Point is, having more great players on contracts that look good is not a bad thing.

You gotta take enough term when you get the first crack at it to secure the life changing bag.
That’s what I’d be thinking, especially if I were a family man or planned that in my future. You want that financial security. An injury could derail or end your career. In that sense, I think it more likely a player give a hometown discount if they feel a sense of loyalty to the club.

Stars have allways been really good with the cap and cap planning under Nill. This move is obviously not something that was or even could've been planned for because who the f*** even knew Rantanen was available a couple of months ago . So now they'll have to get to work to make a new plan with the Rantanen contract included in the planning but i have trust they'll get it done

March and Dumba will be moved. Benn will take a sweetheart deal. Robo might be moved before his next RFA contract. Tough decisions will be made but they'll make it work.

Too concerned about two years from now

Robo is also an RFA in 27 still. Super easy to get a haul for his contract signed or not since he would to be an offer sheet candidate.

Worry about his contract and his worth in 2026. That’s a whole year to make a move if you feel you want to keep him or anyone for that matter.

I see him as an odd man out eventually. We got his best years.
