A lot of hype surrounding this young man throughout the season as the league's most tantalizing trade bait for some time.

Production wise, he's been pretty consistent, along with his penchant for missing 20-30 games a season.

In your eyes, is he a #1 defenceman?

24 years old, in his 7th NHL season.

2022-2023: 36GP 7G 21A 28 PTS +8
Career: 373GP 60G 110A 170 PTS

He is one of the top 32 Dmen in the league when healthy so took option 1 but top pairing is also acceptable.

Anyone voting otherwise either doesn't know shit or is biased and probably both.

He’s a top 4 defenseman.

He’s described as a two way defenseman but he’s not particularly good in his own end. Great puck mover, I wouldn’t call him a distributor but he can go for stretch passes and sees the ice good. He’s got the physical elements and offensive qualities that are apparent.

Defense is going to be the major question. Perhaps he does better defensively with better quality linemates but time will tell. Obviously worth a gamble.

He’s like a prime Alex Edler that can skate.

Only thing I’d say is it’s easy to look good on a historically bad team - it’s harder to play well and consistently on a good team (which Ottawa isn’t yet) - so I’m interested to see not only his game but if he raises the game of the players on the ice with him - is he just good for his role or is he making the other 4 skaters better as well.

the return arizona got in the trade says it all, extremely clearly

unless you think thats the going rate for 24 year old, #1 defensemen signed for 2 more years at a $4.6 cap hit

He's not a #1 IMO

He's a very good #2 or #3 depending on how you define those positions.
#2 is seen as your 2nd best defeceman, but often times a #3 is more important as they are "anchoring" that pair.

Voted top pairing either way

#4 in Colorado. Comfortably a top pairing guy in Ottawa.
#2 after Makar actually. Use your head

I would consider him to be a #2 or #3 with potential to be a #1 that may never be realized. His injury history has always concerned me...
