Speculation: Is J Toews looking to make a comeback this year?

I think he's exactly the bottom 6 center Edmonton needs.

Is Perry actually playing 4C right now? Can't be?

He will be 37 before the puck drops in the playoffs and hasn't played in over a year.

Will he be "over" Father Time?

You can roll the dice and see what you get, but it's an enormous gamble and any team with a real need up the middle should be looking at him as a possible surprise bonus, not a real solution.
In what way its it an enormous gamble?

Yeah it's not. If it doesn't work out, he gets waived and then they mutually agree to terminate his contract like with Tyler Johnson and the Bruins. Hell, he could even play in the AHL to scratch the itch. There would be nothing shameful about that.

On one hand, I'm a bit sad at the idea of Toews playing for a team other than Chicago. He's an all-time favourite of mine. This guy was the Blackhawks, and it's pretty cool to have played for only one team for a whole storied career.

On the other hand, I'm pretty excited to see if he has something left in the tank. I love a comeback story! Who cares if one line in his career stats stands out a little? Not me, in the grand scheme of things. It's his life, and I hope it works out. I'll be cheering him on, for sure.

Edmonton would be so epic. For the sake of my brother who married into being a die hard Oilers fan, I hope they do it!

If a team requires a third line centre, and brings in Toews, and doesn't make a move at the deadline to acquire a centre as a result, and it becomes quite obvious that Toews isn't able to perform anymore, which his certainly possible at his age and with the amount of time he has missed, plus his previous health issues, they've missed the boat.

Trading for say, Brock Nelson comes with some certainty on what you're going to get and how he's going to help your team. Adding Jonathan Toews is a shot in the dark. He could work out well and be an outstanding addition. He could completely fizzle and be a healthy (or unhealthy) scratch come playoff time.

It's a gamble, and any team bringing him should be thinking that whatever they are getting is a bonus rather then looking at him to fill a need in their roster.
