Blindside, point of contact was the head. Text book definition of what they are trying to eliminate. Suspension will be well earned.

Yeah it's exactly what they are trying to eliminate. I hope waive him, he doesn't even really fight or do anything anymore. Knies is more crushing and more effective. I am sure we can find someone who can hit out there if they want it.

Just watched it like 5 more times. Textbook Stevensesque blindside direct to the head. There isn't even wiggle room for benefit of the doubt on that puppy.

Wasting a roster spot on these so called “enforcers” or tough players who have the hockey IQ of the puck they are chasing is never good.
The team bottom six can’t afford to waste cap dollars on useless goons. Lorentz is more valuable than Reaves.

And now it seems we made the same mistake as other teams signing Domi to an extension because he had a growl and had a few good weeks playing with Mathews. The guy hasn’t scored since April

The bottom six once again is an issue for this team. Reaves is one of the problems even playing 6-8 mins a game.

Should kick tires on Mathieu Olivier.

I’ve said the same a few times. He’d be a nice add.

I watched the hit a few more times. My opinion on Reaves has not changed, he should be suspended, and has full responsibility for the type of hit that needs to be eliminated.

However, what was Nurse doing there? How is it he was skating admiring the puck on his stick with no awareness of where anyone was on the rink? Dude, keep your head up.

A great opportunity coming ahead for the coaching staff and management to realize Reaves provides no intimidation factor out there on the ice and his spot would better serve someone who actually knows how to play the game of hockey. I don’t mind Reaves as your 13th forward for certain games but he should not be a main stay in your lineup. Waiving Reaves and giving him the Simmonds treatment by training with the big club regardless would be a smart move for a cap strapped team.

Reeves was done before he signed with Toronto, they need a guy who can play hockey AND fight when needed, not a guy who can’t play hockey and refuses to fight at all……….
Maybe they can grow him in a lab because they're rare and not on any trade market I'm aware of.

That was a clean hit... He went though his chest / shoulder, he didn't leave his feet, he didn't move his shoulder up etc. Not his fault Nurse wasn't paying attention and got destroyed.

It was a hit, he didn’t target the head but he directly hit the head.

They killed the penalty off and the place went nuts. They don’t show you that on TV.

Effectively neutered Edmonton for the rest of the game.

That is a real intimidation.

Hope Nurse is ok. He looked fine after the game.

Reevo is a keeper.

You dubasitez can go cheer for 14th Pittsburgh if you like.

It's an illegal check to the head.

But not an intentional one. I slowed the footage down and checked second by second, Nurse bent over a bit right before impact. Had he been upright there would have been no hit to the head.

Point of contact was the head because Nurse bent over.

Nurse was going to get blown up anyway, but I think the instinctive stop up at the last split second ended up doing more damage because it was the difference between getting blown up via shoulder, or leaning in with his head.

What's weird, and I agree with Biz on this, it just felt weird that Nurse kept skating towards the boards a tiny bit more than would be usual. I fully expected his route to start to square up to go up the ice, but he kind of kept skating east a split second longer than was natural.

That ended up being the difference between being smashed head on. And being smashed at a 45 degree angle.
