No need to panic, it's a shortened season and we as fans found out that the Flyers aren't good with a shortened camp, lots of young guys on this team,
I believe no one came in in "game" shape, hell the rest of the NHL didn't either, but it plays hand and hand with Lavi's system high up tempo forechecking, requires conditioning and wheels,
but at this point you have to accomidate for the roster you have, not force the system down their throats,
drill the basics and the rest will come, even if this team is terrible this year, it's not the end of the world
it will feel like it but Snider won't sit back on his heels, I mean I can see him hitting the panic button if the Flyers go 0-5 or 0-7

No need to panic. Two excellent teams and a loss that could have pretty much have gone either way.

As has been stated by others, the special teams are a concern for sure.

I don't agree with that at all. That describes a mindset of safe plays, conservatism, etc. The Flyers have been very aggressive on the attack, they've just been AWFUL at executing everything. It really should get better with time.

maybe it was just yesterday, but it just seemed (for the most part) that they were concerned about doing things correctly rather than just playing. They were great once they were in the offensive zone, but actually getting to that point...

Therefore, I'm hoping they are sellers this year and can move Timonen and Briere for prospects and picks. Hopefully, get in the top 5 of the draft with their own pick. They need a top pairing defenseman, plain and simple.

do you really think these players are that good at all? sometimes i wonder why columbus gave away jake, la giving away Simmonds and schenn, read being undrafted, i mean yeah these players had 1 great season but so did jvr in the playoffs of 2011 and look what happened, he fell off the map and was never the same player and he's struggling in toronto, it could be possible that homer got screwed in these deals, it's not the first time this has happened especially giving away gagne for nothing and he was a great player,

i think it is time to panic because this roster is not built to win, too many unproven players.

What exactly has gagne done since he left and thats coming from someone who'd say gags is in my top 3 flyers of all time. He's a shell of himself now and that trade looks good compared to keeping him.

I agree with Bryz....they have to get down to basics and concentrate on team D. The goals will come if they concentrate on being defensively responsible more than offensively dynamic. Lavi needs to adjust his system and tighten things up like the GM and the owner suggested in the offseason. Better see these adjustments against the Rangers...if they are outplayed and lack urgency well it suggests that Lavi's message isn't getting through.

Half of the team are already prospects and that's why they suck!
Second year players like Couts or the Schenns should not be supposed to carry the team. Laughton should not be rushed in.

Even an aging Timonen is still far better than 98% of next seasons free agency crop. The only real option has already resigned (Edler). So offering Kimmo a new 1 year contract is a no brainer barring other options.

This franchise will never accept a full rebuild. They won't draft defensemen in the first round over the next couple of years and then wait another 2-3 years until those prospects may be ready to assume a fulltime job with the big boys. Not to mention that this would also mean we burn Giroux's prime years for the rebuild.
Even if it may be the right way in theory, it won't happen in Philly.

I've liked what Lavy has done with the team since he took over in 2009 but I'm finally starting to come around on the opinion that his system needs to change or sadly he needs to go. Granted, the players from forwards back to the goaltender all need to play better, but the personnel on this team don't match the high tempo, dump and chase, heavy forecheck, defensemen always engaging forward system. They've gotten away with it in past years but now it's so very apparent. One major issue that has been overlooked under Lavy's time here is in my opinion the puck moving skills all over the ice for the Flyers have diminished greatly. What good is dumping the puck in and forechecking to get it if once you get it you can't pass it to an open player. What good is a defenseman jumping into the rush to support if you can't hit him with a pass in the neutral zone or he can't pass the puck back. The breakout strategy of late (since last season) has been the high dump out of the zone. Most other passes are made blind, throwing the puck around the edge of the ice hoping that someone is there to retrieve it. Not to mention we go offside and ice the puck more than any other team in the league. In summary, I think at this point if a move were made I would be more in favor of a coaching change than trying to fit new personnel into the system. I think it's worn its welcome in Philly even though Lavy has won with it before.

I agree...I made the same argument. The GM bears some responsibility but I think it just defaulted this way b/c we couldn't secure Weber and Suter. Holmgren botched the Carle and Jagr situations as a result b/c he put them on the "waiting list." Carle and Jagr decided to not wait especially since they were offered good money.

Basically it was Holmgren saying...well I couldn't get what you wanted for Christmas so here's some socks and underwear....deal with it somehow

I'm usually an optimist, but when you're down 0-3 to start the season, it starts becoming psychological ...you start playing not to lose and that my friends will be our downfall.
Bryz has been better, but i fail to believe this team has any confidence in him and are playing on edge. The Defence is slow and none of them seem to bring any offensive threat, the special teams is horrible... I just see too many negatives and not enough positives. Prove me wrong Flyers!

The only team that destroyed us was the Devils. We dominated the Pens after the first period and lost because Fleury stood on his head. And the refs screwed us against the Sabres. The Flyers looked terrible last night, but things should get better.
