Is it time to fire DeBoer?

we should have hired tortallini as our head coach instead he went to the canucks

deboer has no passion and does not know how to fire up this team

Rewatch the first round of 09 and then see how you feel about his coaching. Screw that guy. He was given a pretty mediocre team in 08 but managed to keep them on track thanks to a really strong season from Marty. So we'll just call that a wash. But 2009? I'll never understand how he did a complete 180 like that. Everything that worked for them through 70 games was pushed aside for a checking line centric game plan. Maurice out coached him badly in that series. Real bad.

I want Lavs or Maurice if we are going to change coaches. The rest of the options out there (Someone like Ron Wilson especially) I can't justify as our next coach.

We need a coach that is not only great with young players (as well as vets) but will also light a fire under this team and will teach a winning culture.

If we would have done that I would become a Flyers fan first before wanting anything to do with Torts.

Larry Robinson won a Stanley Cup in 2000, got to Game 7 of the Finals in 2001 and was fired mid-season in 2002. What changed over the last decade that Pete gets carte blanche to lose two straight seasons?
No kidding. They scrapped Larry after back to back SCF appearances. We weren't even THIS bad that year. I'm pretty sure we suffered from a low shooting percentage that year too. Not nearly as low as it is now though, or as low as it's been since last year.
how would you guys feel if we were to bring back brent sutter.. i mean yes he ditched us to go to calgary, but his system definitely worked!.. we were a good team under him.. someone posted elias hated sutter.. why did he hate him?

I think Elias hated Sutter because he stripped him of the captaincy. And it was honestly for no good reason either. Sutter's system won't work with this team. It's close enough to Deboer's. You'd just see the same things happening that are happening now. 30 or more shots on goal on the shot clock, 2 goals in the net. It worked because we had a forechecking team those years, just like we had when Pete was first hired. We don't have that anymore.

The first year we had Sutter the system wasn't working that great, but honestly the team wasn't that good, and I still don't think we were constantly getting 30+ shots on net with 2 goals to show for it. The 07-08 Marty was also better than Schneider. That was one of his best seasons ever.

One good thing I have to say about Sutter is that the neutral zone and defensive zone play were much better than what we're seeing now. I know we've dramatically cut back on the odd man rushes the last few games but still.

I could see Lou wanting Sutter back because he thought very highly of him. At this point though I have to believe if Lou makes a coaching change, it's because he feels the system isn't working anymore. And Sutter is similar to Deboer in the strategy they play.

Still can't stand that slimy puke for stripping Patty of the captaincy and the Carolina meltdown. His selling out with the checking line bothered the hell out of me.

It really all depends on the way the team is playing. The Devils team that played last night is not a team that has tuned out it's coach. And aside from the Jackets game, they've been playing better and only lost to Ottawa and Vancouver because of some tough goals against.

Look at it this way. If the Devils had won their 3 shootouts, we would be looking at a team with a 4-5-1 record. Nothing great, but definitely nothing horrible after 10 games, especially considering all the new faces. And I don't think anyone would be thinking about firing the coach with that record. Now what difference will a new coach make in regards to these dip ***** learning how to score in the shootout? They haven't scored a single shootout goal in 11 attempts. I think they even missed the net completely 3 of those times.

Pete is getting a lot of **** for the personnel decisions, and I get that. That's well deserved, but there is plenty of blame to go around for this mess and I'm not so sure he is the main culprit. He's simply not responsible for a lot of the bad **** we've seen lately.

Patty doesn't want it anyway.

i just dont know what this team needs at this point.. honestly speaking, this team is in big trouble for the next few years.. majority of our players are in the age range of 29-39... this is not a good thing... young players like JJ, and teddy are not performing. Don't know if thats because they suck or because of Deboer's way of handling them. OUr defense is old. And with their contracts, looks like they will be staying for another 2-3 years. We let go our first draft pick coz of schneider. I love schneids but there is always an uncertainty he will book it once his contract is over ... IM SO FRUSTRATED!!!

It's the system that has me concerned. I don't think it's the right system for this team to be playing. It's just not giving us results. We have one of the lowest shooting percentages in the league the last two years. It hasn't gotten any better this year. We constantly need 30 shots just to score 2 goals.

That has me questioning the system we're playing big time. That's why I want Deboer gone more than anything. The number of times we've been to overtime the last 3 years and our inability to finish games in overtime also has me irate. 75% of the time we go to overtime the game is decided in a shootout. That's too much IMO.

They participated in back to back late season death marches while Sutter was here and he started making bizarre ice time decisions which were pretty similar to what Deboer is doing now. Just substitute Madden, Pandolfo, and Shanahan with Gionta, Bernier, and Carter as well as White and Matteau with Harrold and Volchenkov and there's not much of a difference. The way they collapsed back then isn't a whole lot different than the way they've been playing for the past 60 games so I'm not sure anything would be different with Sutter at the helm right now.

Tomorrow we'll get shutout by Rask on 36 shots and we'll hear the same things from proponents of the system. ''Yeah we just played a hot goalie tonight. He's gonna win the Vezina this year. We just played 3 of the leagues top goalies in the last 3 games, we'll be fine. We'll win 9 out of 10 times we play this way. Brodeur also didn't help us because he let in that softy.'' and then we'll score 2 goals on Ben Blimpup on Tuesday on 32 shots and we'll see the same thing.

I honestly believe the system we're playing is just not geared towards this team. They can't finish playing like this. If we were getting 18 shots on goal a game or 22 I would understand. We're getting 25 or more for the most part, and we're not getting results.

bad goaltending has helped him stay a bit longer.

i just think lou has given this guy a **** sandwich this year and asked him to turn it into gold.

lou could have taken away his pets, harrold and gionta along time ago. even if deboer protested, he has the final say. instead he has kept these slugs on the roster while gelinas got sent down, and urbom was picked up by the caps.

too many players on one way contracts.... whose fault is that? the roster is bloated.

I hate the idea of hiring a permanent coach during the regular season. Name an interim guy as HC, if he succeed then we've got our guy, if not then take the time to find the RIGHT coach.

Harrold should have never have been re signed. Plain and simple, and he surely shouldn't have been signed for 2 years.

What I'm wondering, was Harrold supposed to be an every night player when we re signed him? Or was he supposed to be exactly what he was when we started last season? A healthy scratch for most games with a healthy lineup?

And I'd also blame losing Urbom on the decision to re sign Harrold too.

Getting shots means the system is working. I don't think we have the horses to run it to to the level it was at two years ago, but it's still working. The problem is that these guys have zero finish. Why does Ryder have 4 goals? It's because he knows how to put a puck in the back of the net. But he's literally the only one. How many times this season have we seen the opposistion goaltender make several ridiculous saves in the same game? It happens way too often. A new coach will not fix that, unless of course you want Brett Hull calling the shots.

We get really bad chances.

Elias was the worst Captain this team has ever seen. That being said, Sutter was the most boring lifeless coach we ever experienced.

You hate to see a man lose his job and when Deboer gets fired even the thickest of skin will feel bad for him, however teams do not rejuvenate the way you would like after a coach's tenure was on the line.

He is at the point where a losing streak can come real easy again.

Once the players see the coach's job is on the line, it is basically over.

I don't know about that. Looking back on that ottawa game, a team with any semblance of finish could have scored at least 4 goals in that game. The Senators were nearly daring the Devils to score on them that night. In the jackets game, NJ had at least 3 doorstep chances and couldn't cash in. The shootout only proves this point further. They can't score for ****.

Everybody points to Larry and Adam as being the brains behind DeBoer and I don't buy it. Wtf was their excuse when Mac was around? Pete's a good coach with a strong system and while you can surely take issue with the roster decisions, I think the team is finally starting to come around. The games are getting better lately. To start fresh with someone else now, I just don't think they can afford it after basically throwing the first month of the season away. They're too far into it for a restart imho.

I don't believe Oates was behind the bench with JMac, no?
