Winning all those advanced stats battles seems to have done wonders so far.

Well if you don't wanta pairing that performs well feel free, but not everyone will just want the team to pick the player you like best and ignore everything else

I don't know why they haven't sent him down but I'd like to believe it isn't because he's a 'pet'.
It's pretty obvious his skating and strength aren't developed enough for the NHL. A full season on the Marlies is needed.

It's an indication of what he's capable of. Granted he's not horrible defensively he's not exactly a shut down defenseman either. There's reasons why he's not getting shots on net like he used to, maybe increased minutes and responsibility has him overwhelmed?

Shots on net by a defenseman has nothing to do with how competent a defenseman is.

There are lots of things that can effect shots on net by a D-man, like partner, team system, coach's preference, etc lots of things we as fans are not aware of in general.

Dermott takes a lot of flack here for not being flashy enough, not developing at a rate that's suitable for some or for being stupid (you can dress it up any way you want it like hockey IQ or tools but no toolbox) But he's been pretty damn good all season and shouldn't be the guy getting scratched. "But he doesn't play against top competition and has the lowest TOI" Well give him more ice time. We all know two guys for sure that need a lot less. We can't get any worse giving this guy a chance.

Yeah I thought he's been great to start the year, even dating to last year's playoffs. Without that horrendous giveaway he was fine.
He's the least of our worries on the blueline right now. What's more concerning is the play of Brodie, Muzzin & Holl. It's like they've forgotten everything.
