He's 24 and was scratched for Liljegren already over Sandin and he's steadily declined in shots on goal for three years now.

2018/2019: 64 gp 98 shots
2019/2020: 56gp 65shots
2019/2020: 51gp 36 shots

He's really not a great fit for this lineup either since we need serviceable RHD. IMO he's peaked and that's devastating to our depth. Convince me otherwise.

A more rounded Jake gardiner. Not an offensive guy like Jake but does everything just ok. Tools no toolbox guy like gardiner

I don't hate Dermott's play but I do think he is what he is at this point. Don't know how much better he will get. With that said I would give more ice to the younger more promising D men

I agree with you if they had some we need a rugged defenceman that can play Who do you suggest from the Marlies ?

He's not that top 4 guy that everyone wants him to be.. I think bottom 4 with upside to fill-in. There's nothing wrong with him being part of the Team moving forward in this type of role. People just need to get out of their head he's going to take the #1 slot as previously forecasted.

Not a very bright player TBH. Last night was a prime example. Simple play, put the puck down low and the game stays 1-1. For whatever reason Dermott thought it was a good idea to try to shoot the puck through the shin pads of the oncoming forward, which lead tot he 2-1 goal the other way. He single handedly turned a won draw in the offensive zone into a goal against.

Game 6, all the momentum in the world, puck comes onto his tape. Derms tries a subby-doo in open space and burps the puck up for no reason. curtains

He tries jamming jello into a piggy bank far to often. Exact opposite of what you need in the bottom pairing

He's honestly a waste of a roster spot, he's really not good at anything. He can't PK/PP, he needs to be heavily sheltered, he has a history of making risky plays in the d-zone and he's not physically imposing. Our third pair has to be sheltered so much, and doesn't PK, which puts so much stress on the top 4. We desperately need another guy like Bogosian in place of Dermott

I mean that’s one way to look at that play. The other is if Sandin wasn’t both the weakest and slowest player on the Leafs it’s not a chance against at all.

Dermott-Bogosian was one of the better bottom pairs in the league last year. Like so many other areas, they’ve taken a step back this year. The 3rd pair needs to be sheltered because Sandin can’t skate and it’s still built like a 13 year old boy. He’s got great instincts as a playmaker but he gives up so much without the puck that he’s still a net negative.

Dermott is one of their 4 best D man. Right now he’s probably top 3 with Muzzin struggling as much as he has. With the term and dollars on his contract, they really need Muzzin to bounce back or that’s even more dead money.

He's competing with Liljegren for the #6 role. Dermott has played in more games but averaged the lesser TOI in comparison. He's still part of the solution at this point since it doesn't appear that either player has outright claimed that spot just yet. Good to have this kind of depth in tow if an injury strikes.

Dermott-Bogosian was good because of Bogosian, not Dermott. In regards to Sandin and Dermott, Sandin is better right now and actually has room to grow and become better, unlike Dermott (who's turning 25 and has played over 200 games in the NHL).

 Dermott and Bogosian were good together because they played off eachother and had complimentary skill sets.

Sandin is brutal without the puck. If you can’t see that, I can’t help you.

… let me guess, metrics say Sandin is better?

You are seeing things correctly .. his development did not progress properly with Bogo last year .. team has issues though in defense speed .. we only have 2 guys who can fly Rielly and Dermy .. everyone else is either avg (Brodie/Holl) speed .. or slow in speed Sandin/Muzzy/Lily .. in today's game you need BIG FAST NASTY defenders who don;t let anyone take our net . we have ZERO of those guys now that Muzzy has lost a step and he will drop off another step next year too .. it is bleak for our defense

He's a middling NHL defender who can survive on the right side and can move up to play 2nd pairing minutes on the left side. Still a little too frenetic for my liking and can get physically dominated at times.

His decision making is the main concern I have with him. He's got the raw tools to be a good D man, but he's got some mental work to do to get there first. Issue is that can be something that's hard to overcome
