When my high salary, mopey co-worker resigns at work, I see that as an opportunity for a larger role and potential growth, change of culture, etc. This is a professional organization and these are professionals.
You guys really think the Red Wings players are all behind closed doors ripping on Yzerman, McLellan, and staff? Many of whom carry an NHL resume’ dating back to before these players were born.
Sure, that may be the case for a few of them, but if true, it’s a Larkin problem. And this news could not have arrived quicker.
If Steve reaches out to the team and says “anyone else?” and a few hands go up.. well, there’s the door.
Another thing I want to add that is getting missed. When elite players (Larks, Cat) demand a trade in a seller’s market, this needs to be seen as an opportunity, not a detriment or impediment to success. This is where your GM needs to play 4D chess and find a way to leverage the circumstance into hope for a brighter future.
If SY fumbles this OPPORTUNITY, I think he’ll see his own way out.
