Within the last several months, the Oilers have made some interesting moves.

1. Hiring Connor's agent as CEO of the Oilers

2. Signing Connor's Junior linemate in free agency

3. Hiring Connor's Junior coach as head coach

With these things in mind, do you think McDavid is actually the one currently running the Oilers? Or do you think these moves are all desperate attempts to get Connor to re sign with the team in a few years?

I think it’s both.

Of course the oilers wanna do whatever necessary to keep him long term. He’s the best player in the world.

And…

All the things you listed plus:

-this is the 5th oilers coach in McDavids 9th season
-Holland blurted that he/they spoke to McDavid and other team vets before todays announcement. And Holland’s boss (McDavids agent) contradicted him a few seconds later.

I’m pretty sure this whole thing is gonna end up in a few biographies one day lol

Flames will trade you Oscar Dansk for a 3rd rounder.

Come on Kenny. Keep Connor happy!

Oilers running Connor McDavid into an early grave more like it
poor guy has lost the light in his eyes

The light was gone the moment he found out the Oilers won the 2015 lottery.

He has the most leverage out of anybody in the franchise and as a result, the people running things have to cater to him. He's not running things but things revolve around him. I guess it depends on whether you think there's any difference between the two. Based on his personality/attitude, I wouldn't go that far.

3 more seasons including this one. I personally hope he sticks it out and stays loyal to Edmonton (both for his own reputation but also for a fanbase that really deserves a boost). But if they still aren't winning, what do you do if you're him? It will be interesting times.

He’s taken a page out of LeBron’s playbook. LeBron started doing that around the same age; the LeGM stage of his career where he began trading and acquiring players, got his business partners team jobs, and handpicked his coaches.

McGM is here.

Smart. The average fan doesn’t like it, but then again, that’s why they’re in the stands.
