Is Brock Boeser's agent overplaying their hand?

Boeser's camp apparently rejected a 8mil x 5 yrs offer from the Canucks.

Now he has 0 goals in his last 12 games while the Canucks are fighting for their playoff lives.

3 pts in 12 games.

Allvin almost too candidly announced at the post trade deadline presser that the league doesnt think very highly of Brock for a number of reasons and were only willing to offer a 2nd round pick for him at the TDL.

Friedman confirmed that a 2nd round pick was the best offer from anyone due to the following reasons:

1. concern about the blood clot he previously had
2. concern that Boeser was just riding on JT Millers coat tails. (Boeser play since Miller left kinda proves that as well)
3. concern about Boeser's foot speed.

If you remember a year ago, Allvin gave permission for Brock and his agent to look for a trade. Nothing materialized.

Now Brock is playing without a contract next year. He will be playing the rest of the season and possibly playoffs without guaranteed contract moving forward.

Very risky for someone that has dealt with blood clot and other major injuries.

Quite the gamble rejecting 40+ million. Hopefully not another case of John Klingberg.

With the announced increased in the cap, I don't think that there is much risk for Boeser. Someone else will overpay for too much term.

not that i disagree, and trading for someone and signing them is different but Boeser's agent might want to read the room.

1. Clearly playoff teams dont think too highly off him, they only offered 2nd rounders.
2. Nobody wanted to trade for him previously when Canucks gave him and his agent permission to seek a trade.

Add that in with the medical concerns and I dont really think he will get a much much bigger contract offer than the 40-45million that he supposedly already rejected.

Plus he has been such a passenger and a lifeless player over the last 2 months that i dont know why someone would offer him more than an 8mill AAV and more than 5-6 yrs term.

No. Realistically this is his last big contract and as a result term probably matters more than AAV for earnings potential. He’s going to want 6 or 7 years and he’s right to do so.

He has 0 goals in 12 games, medical history of blood clot, and he doesnt drive a line.

How much more AAV and term do you figure someone will offer him?

Canucks offered 8mil AAV. I honestly dont see anyone offering more than that. Term? Canucks offered 5/ is someone actually gonna offer him 7 yrs?

Optimistically, were talking about a 40-45 mil contract from the Canucks or a 48-50million contract in free agency..

Is someone gonna offer him 8milx7yrs? = 56 mil...Highly highly doubt it. 9mil x 6yrs= 54mil? Highly doubt it as well

He's either scoring or totally invisible so not surprised people are hesitant, especially with the injury history

Maybe an unpopular opinion around here but he's not a significantly different player than Tyler Toffoli

all that being said it's probably smart of his agent to bank on a rising cap and a free agent.

I read that his career high shooting percentage last season was because of Tocchet's top secret shooting % boosting system.

He's probably just going through a slump and will be back to shooting 20% in no time.

Not at all outrageous that someone offers him 7.5x7 in free agency.

I think with the addition of 2 more expansion teams, free agents as a whole are at a premium so they will in general be overpaid. 2 more teams doesn't sound like much, but it's a near 10% increase and that puts pressure on teams to do anything to sign players.

In the last 20 years the salary cap has more than doubled so some of the new contracts look bad because of previous context, but even the 8 million is more akin to what we used to see in the 4-6 range. So his 8 looks even worse, but I guess it's not terrible per se, but more so due to other concerns about him.

As far as Boeser goes, with his terrible production he is overplaying his hand for sure, but this is an endemic problem in general relating to the increase of bad human qualities, one of those being greed. Not to say this is anything new, but social constraints limited certain behaviors, I don't think those exist at all anymore.

Bowser isn't worth 8M. He can't drive a line and needs help to create offense. He no longer has JT Miller to feed him pucks.

Perhaps he's not a fan of Vancouver or the team. And is willing to take less to not play there.

Quite the opposite, has publicly expressed his love for the city and the team and his desire to want to be in Van long term.

Like i said, maybe its the agent that is overplaying the hand and getting in Brock's ears.

Van was trading in a higher cap hit for a shorter term. He's not a great skater so 5 years would take him to 33. They were not too keen on giving him a 7/8 year deal until he's 35/36. So, you compromise a bit and got higher cap for shorter term.

Players want the term in the event they get hurt and it's guaranteed at 2/3 given the buyout terms.

Reminds me of John Tavares...right until he signed with Toronto. Every player speaks well about where they're playing, because they'd be idiots if they didn't. Most of the time it is probably true. We just never know when it isn't.
