You ignored the part after about what if he was in Buffalo etc.

It's using the Halo Effect to make a player's subjective assessment. Barkov is the same player even if he plays on a cellar dweller, but by the luck of playing on a Cup winner, his assessment as an individual player shines brighter.

It's not an argument against Barkov per se, it's an argument against using any team accomplishment in an individual player's resume.
It’s taking away credit for something that did actually happen and then disparaging for some ridiculous hypothetical.

Does Tage Thompson win a Cup if he were in Florida instead of Buffalo? Who cares? It’s an irrelevant question. Barkov is a huge part of his team’s success and that’s the only thing that’s real and that matters.

Why is that weird?
Because we’re talking about the Hockey Hall of Fame, the one that exists in our dimension not the alternate dimension one you must be thinking of.

And that is something that voters in our dimension care about.

So I’m saying that captaining 2 cup teams will help Barkov in addition to all the other credentials he has .

Which is why this dimensions version is watered down and not as valuable as my dimension 😏

Winning is a team achievement but being the captain and the first-line center of a winning team is still very much an individual honour/achievement. Why shouldn't it be considered?
That plus the Selkes speak volumes too. It's rare to find stud, all around #1 C's.

Are you arguing based on what the hall of fame is or what you think the hall of fame ought to be?

How you can have barasso and Vernon but not bobrovsky in there, as an example.
Ought to be.

Based on what is, those players probably make it.

Barrasso and Vernon have no business being in the HHoF

But the issue I see is you're still attributing to that player what is a team accomplishment.

Switch places between McDavid and Barkov. Now what? You say he captained a Cup finalist two seasons in a row as a point on his resume?

Put Barkov in Ottawa, Columbus, Buffalo
...he's not the same kind of player and captain? He needs his captaincy and numbers justified by playing on a team thst wins a Cup?

You've unwittingly made an argument for why the HHoF and anything voted on by people is a flawed system- the Halo Effect is too tempting a trap to fall into
Just say bias, no need to impress anyone with the Halo effect, it's a freaking hockey board not Harvard.

And everyone has bias, you have presented yours already in this thread...or perhaps it was another one, you post a ton , like somewhere around 58.67 posts/day.:DD

Does right now mean if his career ended today? Then likely no.

In the sense that if he keeps playing at a normal rate of return, then obviously yes

And come with an asterisk next to every achievement
No they don't and please stop trying to push that silly narrative.

One can talk about context and uneven schedules during COVID and the 12-13 and 94-95 seasons and WWII years ect but the whole asterisk thing is just silly.

That's the season of record, don't try to alter reality, comment on it if you must for contest.

Reasonable people can do that right?

I literally LoL at this.

I only use halo effect because it's the precise bias. And I'm the type who if someone uses a concept I don't know, I look it up. So I figure if someone is opem-minded enough to the dialogue, they'll look it up if they don't know.

The funniest part of it ĺ

56.87 isn't it? 😏

And of course I have biases. Everyone has biases because our brains evolved to use them for the sake of survival. No shame in admitting it!

I’ve been lobbying the league to remove the 2020 playoffs and subsequent 2021 season/playoffs from the register altogether since autumn 2020. They’re sick of me but I have a solid legal team that keeps the fight alive
