Happy for you to invest more time in things that are, probably, far more important.
The bigger thing is creating things that I will be able to own and control when I'm done with them. I wish I could publish the videos without advertisements, but because I used clips which the NHL owns, they decided to monetize them. Yeah the league has only made about $50 in add revenue from my videos, but I made them to share with fellow fans, not to advertise to fellow fans.
I am surprised that your interest is dropped that low, however.
Part of my personality I guess. I'm just all or nothing with a lot of things I do. When I care about something, I REALLY care about it. So when I go to caring about new things, I don't have much time for the old ones.
If the passion is gone, I agree there is no reason to do it.
As far as time spent goes, your journey sounds like mine with watching sports in general. Hockey is the only one I invest anytime in. I used to be a big watcher of basketball and baseball. I used to watch the Bengals every Sunday. Other than the CBJ, I probably catch 10 games in those three major sports per year. Haven't watched a Reds game yet this season and missed the Bengals playoff game.
I worked in sports broadcasting for several years, and getting a look behind the curtain killed my interest in MLB and the NBA. The Browns moving out of town killed my interest in football, and I wasn't living in Cleveland when they moved back, so I had no incentive to follow them. Working for minor league hockey kept my interest in the sport, but as I was a Wings fan at the time, I lost interest after the Konstantinov crash. Sports didn't seem as important after it, and the influx of bandwaggoners following the championship win made me loathe to be associated with them.
I have so many other interests now, so I understand the feeling. I can't imagine spending the time you did on those things. My interest in Hockey is slowly declining. I'll always be a Jackets fan, but won't be surprised if I give up going to games unless I have kids.
I didn't follow hockey from 98-2005. I might be in another cycle, or I may be done, I don't really know. Part of it may have stemmed from having a child. He started going to games at 2 months old, still calls pretty much any sport "Hot-tee" and wears a CBJ, Wild, or Blues shirt most days of the week (he recognized the logos at goodwill, he got the clothes) But it's a heck of a lot cheaper to go to LEM games than CBJ games, and he still gets 2 periods of cheering for hockey before he falls asleep. But I'd rather go out to museums with him, or take him to the park, and let him experience the world, than just passively watching it. Seeing the joy and excitement in his eyes when I do something as mundane as taking him on a city bus makes getting on a message board and complaining about potential trade proposals seem pointless. As a parent, watching things like the documentary Head Games makes you really question sports in general and the fighting aspect in hockey particularly.
Still having said all that, I've devoted a lot of time to the videos, and picked up a lot of tricks and tips about it. If people have any questions about how I made the videos, or how they can make some themselves, just send me a pm, and I'll help you out in any way I can.
