Deferred payments might be part of next CBA negotiations. Possible elimination; union might not fight hard for it.

IIHF proposal for 2028 World Cup rejected by NHL and NHLPA. IIHF does not want February time frame. May go without federation cooperation.

Deadline for Russian participation in 2026 Olympics is next month. Not May.
Doubtful warfare in Ukraine would be resolved by then. Looking doubtful for Russian participation.

Even if NHLPA doesn't care for the deferred contracts as a whole, if the league wants it removed, they better offer something.
 
Eight World Cup teams without the IIHF means that gimmick teams are back. Not that anyone will take such a tournament seriously anyway.

I won't pay much attention to it anyways just like pretty much any international hockey.
