“@stevezipay: Brian Boyle, lower body out indefinitelyâ€

Now that he's out, I'm guessing Boyle's standing on HF goes from 'completely useless' to 'shutdown defensive center who will be sorely missed on faceoffs'.

Tortorella works on the principle of... let them have the puck and give them bad angle shots, block shots, and pray your all star goaltender can save your ass. When you're on offense, be sure to not burn yourself out because you have to back-check and start blocking more shots. Instead, dump it in and get ready to block more shots. We'll wait for a perfect fore-check and steal in their zone to generate 2-3 scoring opportunities a game.

Welcome to someone who has never played hockey and has no understanding of the sport - but still feels compelled to act as if they have a clue.

- No coach - not even Torts - would devise a strategy around giving the puck to the other team. Cut the crap.

- In the defensive zone, perimeter shots are preferable; and all teams try to keep the opposing team's forwards away from the middle of the ice in their own zone - how they go about it, however, will differ. You chose the one part of the collapsing zone defense that is actually a positive. And chose to ignore that the real problem with it is how it leaves the points open. But yea, you know what you're talking about.

- Torts' offensive system is in fact the exact opposite of "don't burn yourself out." He wants them to work their ***** off fighting for loose pucks. Hockey shifts - especially at the NHL level - are all out sprints at both ends of the ice. It is why the shifts are kept so short. No coach would tell his players "not to burn themselves out" in one end of the ice or the other. It is 100 % effort for the full 30-45 seconds.

- Backchecking is a part of the game for forwards. If you don't do it, you are a ****** NHL'er. This is not something that is unique to Torts as a coach. Nor does he tell his players not to try hard in the offensive zone so they can backcheck. Really? What is this... I don't even... He just emphasizes its importance, and probably rides his players harder than other coaches may if he catches a player coasting, missing a defensive assignment, or failing to backcheck. This is an incredibly important part of the game - and the fact that you seem to think it should be optional speaks volumes.

- Yes, his offensive system is "get ready to block more shots." :shakehead

- There has not been more than a game or two this year that I can recall where the team only had "2-3 quality scoring chances."

Sounds like you have a brilliant grasp on reality.

EDIT: To have even a little bit of this post be on topic -- ****** news on Boyle. :(

Now that he's out, I'm guessing Boyle's standing on HF goes from 'completely useless' to 'shutdown defensive center who will be sorely missed on faceoffs'.

Or you'll just have the brilliant minds that think he is expendable watching what they get with him out of the lineup.

It was no coincidence that Boyle got knocked out of the last game in the first period and then Richie was sent out to take a defensive zone faceoff on the PK in the second period, lost the faceoff, and a goal was scored. Yet instead of thinking about the events that led to this situation, or which player was noticeably absent, people on here *****ed about Torts for sending out Richie for that faceoff...

Huh. I wonder who would have normally been the go-to guy in that situation?

That was just a meaningless faceoff, and an unimportant goal in that game, right? Anyone with a stick could take that faceoff right? Oh... You mean...?

pretty much, it's rather funny

Honestly Boyle needs go ,Pyatt needs to go, get rid of those salaries next yr

If this team wants to go anywhere this yr a guy like Kreider needs to start scoring.......blessing in disguise I hope

We'll miss him on the PK and on faceoffs. Pretty much it

He provides a good forecheck and hits a lot even if he doesn't really drill people. That will be missed. It's also hard to play against a guy that big and strong who has some mobility. He's not irreplaceable but it's an injury that could have some significance when (or if) it comes to grinding out playoff games.

Scotty Bowman has arrived. Brian Boyle has lost plenty of faceoffs on the PK that have lead directly to goals; and to centers not as crafty as Claude Giroux. Was there a better chance that he wins the draw than Richie? Statistically yes, but let's not pretend that if he's in the dot we get possession and no goal is scored. Who knows what would have happened.

If Torts used him properly, this would be a loss. But since Torts insists on using him in a 3rd line capacity, this may very well be addition by subtraction. Spare us the lectures hockey player.

Mike Millbury, the king of spewing ********, has arrived. Hi, Bardof.

No way to know whether Boyle wins that draw or not. Has he lost faceoffs too? Yes. Have some of them led to goals? Sure. But I think it isn't a reach to say that at the very least he certainly doesn't lose it as cleanly as Richie did. I have not seen Boyle lose a draw that led to a goal that cleanly all year. But either way, the point is he is the go-to guy in that situation, he wasn't an option, and look what happens - something that is much more likely to happen without him in that faceoff than with him. It is a clear example of the value he brings to the team. You are purposely being dense if you don't get that from what I said.

Spare us your mindless vitriol, keyboard cowboy.

this will be the best thing that has happened to this team... if torts utilizes krieder correctly playing him on 2nd-3rd line you will see the offensive flow from line to line ...

Its not normal to have 5-6 centers in your line up playing on the wings etc... thats why the rangers always struggle to score goals ...

For everything we've said about how good Boyle is defensively, he's still the most minus player on the team, by quite a bit. And truthfully, the only reason we're going to be missing him are because of these somewhat small and definitely replaceable parts of his game that exist despite the way overblown, 15 minute TOI role Torts has put him in. I don't like the guy in the position he's been consistently put in all season, and while I don't wish injury on anyone, hopefully this is a catalyst for the organization to go out and get a 4th line C that'll actually get played on the 4th line.

As for Kreider...I still love the kid, well-spoken and mannered in interviews and you can tell he's got a good head on his shoulders. He's not ready though. He should've stayed down when he went on that 8 game point streak. Bringing him up when a player like Brian Boyle goes down just reeks of incompetence. There are so many other, better defensive options. Why shoehorn the kid into trying to fill that spot? The org is just toying with him at this point.

I agree on Kreider, if Torts wants to use him on the 4th line. I see no sense in that. Hes a top 2 line prospect, so why put him on the 4th line? Bring up Newbury who fits that role well IMO.

Sometimes I just don't get what Torts sees. He waxes poetic about being careful with kids, and not messing with their development but If you look at Kreiders year as a whole, hes done just that. He hasnt shown any trust in him, and hasnt given him an extended chance to prove otherwise. If hes not ready then fine - leave him down in the AHL on a top offensive line where he should be.

Its not like the kid needs a taste of the NHL anymore, you dont have to ease him into minutes. He's played in 35 NHL games, 18 of them in the playoffs. He knows what needs to be done, he's a smart kid. Its about applying it in game. He showed flashes of that in his latest stint with the Rangers, and I believe he was starting to build on it... and then got benched.

boyle will surely be missed on the pk and in the faceoff circle, hes been good along the boards of late and on the forecheck.

can people still ***** and complain about him while hes in the press box watching the game? im sure the haters will still find a way to hate.

This probably means that Miller will be recalled, which sucks because he's still not ready based on his Hartford play. He shows signs of brilliance at times, but just as often, he is making stupid mistakes.

Because the team has no depth, they keep recalling players from Hartford as soon as they have a couple of good games, breaking their momentum.

Wait what?

Who is this "us" you speak of newcomer? You decided to provide a lecture from atop the mountain on the finer points of the game. And just cause you can't remember seeing doesn't mean it hasn't happened. "keyboard cowboy"? I promise you newbie that you and I would be having the same conversation face to face.

Anyway so far so good with BB on the shelf. You should try a little humility and get a good feel for the Board before "correcting" other posters. Respect is earned; especially here.

14 goals in two games since Boyle got injured. Coincidence? Probably. But his terrible offensive awareness isn't missed in that regard. The guy just has no idea what to do with the puck or where to be in the offensive zone. If Torts played him on the 4th line all year like he should be and put him out for big faceoffs it wouldn't be an issue.

The Rangers have a 2.39 team shooting percentage when he's on the ice. That's just awful.

Don't know if Dorsett returning means Kreider being sent back down. Depending on the severity of Boyle's injury, i'd guess that he'll stick up (at VERY WORST) a scratch. If we're struggling to score against the Devils tomorrow, look for Kreider to be inserted into a top 3 line role by mid 2nd period with Richie and Zucc.

Staal's eye is still dilated. Usually the eye drops used to dilate the eye wear off in a few hours. My friend is an eye doctor. She told me there are long term eye drops used in some occasions. Staal suffered a serious eye injury. Atropine is a eye drop. Its applied to 2 to 4 times per day.

Common Side Effects
Atropine eye drops can cause blurred vision, and people should avoid driving if they experience this side effect. Another common side effect is sensitivity to bright light, because the pupil cannot react to light while under the influence of atropine. These side effects disappear as the medication wears off.

Staal's issues are blurred vision and sensitivity to bright lights. Staal is trying out colored visors to block out the bright light coming into the dilated eye.

Atropine makes the pupil of your eye larger and relaxes the muscles in your eye. These things make it easier for your eye to be examined and your vision tested. It is commonly prescribed for young children who need eye tests.

Atropine may also have been prescribed for you alongside other drops to treat anterior uveitis. This is a painful eye condition caused by inflammation within the eye. By making your pupil larger and relaxing the muscles in your eye, this reduces the pain and allows the inflamed part of your eye to rest and recover

Atropine may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

eye irritation and redness

swelling of the eyelids

sensitivity to bright light

dry mouth

red or dry skin

blurred vision
