Injury Thread '24-‘25 (Post 1 has current injury status)

and? They still cleared him when he wasn't ready because they needed the points. This feels more of a I don't want to mess with the lineup that's been set for the year but if things go south he'll put kane in. He even said he's ab option for game two like how does 2 days make a difference? I'd rather find out Kane isn't ready in game 1 than put him in game 3 if we're down 2 and than find out he isnt gonna be up to speed.

Maybe the medical team read my rant from earlier this week and changed their tune lol.

To me this seems far more like he isn’t medically cleared rather than not wanting to test drive him.

He won't be. This news likely means that Kane isn't back these playoffs at all, unless we miraculously go on a deep run. Another few days isn't going to matter in his recovery, when he has already been out for 7 months.

Maybe his game just isn't where it needs to be.

Playing emberson on his off wing while being paired with an anchor is a recipe for disaster. How is klingberg not ready? Between that and the Frederic trade why didn't they just grab fabbro.

Can't even believe Brown is getting *any* consideration. Guy is not a good defender, and in a playoff setting, how the hell can you even risk it? Put in Dineen.

From Freidman which might explain why Kane isn’t playing tonight; “Knobloch announced Sunday that Stetcher's not going to play, and Evander Kane's not going to play. Now, I'll say this. I think the NHL has been working hard and on some of these teams about injuries. And I've mentioned it in previous Pods if you look at it, Dougie Hamilton came back in game 82.

Tyler Seguin came back in game 82. I can't prove it, but to me, I find it very interesting, because in past, some of these guys might have waited until game one. And the fact that those guys played game 82 and Evander Kane is not playing game one for Edmonton, I don't know that I believe in coincidences.

I think these are some situations where the league was like, we want to see your medical reports. And what it says to me is they are going to work hard at changing the LTIR rules in the next CBA, that there will be a mechanism there, because they were really diligent. I can't prove anything, but I heard they were really on teams about it. And some of these injury decisions, not all of them in terms of who came back for game 82, and who isn't playing game one. It just says to me that they were effective or they were pointed in what they asked for.

That is good to know on the potential LTIR shenanigans. I mean, game 82 felt really honorable, honestly. And I guess if we missed out on the game ones, maybe by game two or game three, some will be able to come back.”

If ever there was a guy who should have earned the benefit of the doubt it should have been Kane. As I pointed out before, the guy had surgery on seven different body parts this year.

These f***ers have 2 sets of rule books.

3 actually. The regular rule book that gets re-interpreted nightly on a game by game basis by each individual ref, the playoff rule book that gets trimmed down from 1500 pages to one sentence, and the Oilers rule book which is the regular rule book but every sentence end with "except for the Oilers".

This is ridiculous.

Lol what point how is that even a thing oh he missed game one so it totally legitimized his injury but wait he magically healed between game 1 and 2. That's the point.

Don’t ask me - you want to argue with Bettman. He’s the one who makes the rules up as he goes along. I’m just telling you the reason he likely isn’t playing tonight - or he isn’t medically cleared.

Frederic seemingly can't contribute at this point. Just under 10 minutes but he was completely unnoticeable. No slight to him, high ankle sprains take weeks to heal but it speaks to the dearth of depth options that they, and he I guess, decided he should dress anyways as that was the best choice for the team's success.

He looked pretty noticeable on the Janmark goal

He made a great play on that goal, but yah, did next to nothing the rest of the game. Like a bunch of others though. Willing to give him some rope though, as he's been out for nearly 2 months and will take some time to get his game back. If we're fortunate enough to advance, we may see more fully what kind of player his is. Until then, I'm not expecting much.

So still nothing on Stecher at all? Is he even skating? We could really use him with Emberson playing 10 mins a night only, and Klingberg playing 17 last night. Stecher is better than Emberson at this point for certain, and would then help limit Klingberg's minutes as well. But it seems like Stecher is a long ways away still.
