Injury Thread '24-‘25 (Post 1 has current injury status)

It is when your team scores 8 points in a single curling end. This means all of your teams rocks ended up both in the rings and closer to the button than any stone of the opposition. I repeat. That gives me unlimited hockey bona fides, no!

Of course I am being facetious. Unfortunately, these days everyone is an expert on everything it seems.
So, was the other team in the patch while you guys were throwing?;)

It was a mixed league here in Kitchener. You pretty much can't get an 8 ender unless the team you are playing against is both a bit shaky and inexperienced. In this case, it was mostly the latter. I had to make a fairly simple double to get the 8 ender. The other team spent most of the end trying to score those two points while allowing us teh opportunity to set up the big end.

This is obviously off topic but it does contain a germ of relevance to the Oilers. In these leagues typically the skips and possibly the thirds have reasonable skill and have a fair bit of curling experience but the front ends are often inexperienced. Moreover, the skips tend to have played front end in more serious leagues and have little experience calling games. Such players tend to call the shots by the book that you would use with a more experienced team. But their inexperienced players simply can't execute them. This is something you can really take advantage of if you play to the strengths of your own team rather than acting as if you have no weaknesses. That is precisely how we set up the end, by calling shots my team could make while enticing the opposition to play to their weaknesses.

In the NHL teams will always have weaknesses. That is an almost 100% consequence of the salary cap. A good manager needs to understand this and instead of constantly trying to use all his cards to fill holes that manager needs to figure out how to use his limited resources to maximize his team's strength while minimizing the impact of those weaknesses. The ability to find the right balance here is what makes great managers.

So than never play him I guess which would be monumentally stupid.

You can’t wave a wand and have a player be magically ready to play, the timing is what it is. Oilers are apparently stupid for rushing back players that had medical clearance but then got reinjured, and are also apparently stupid for not rushing back players that haven’t received medical clearance.

He's not gonna get in game shape u less you put him in a game thinking he's not ready now but suddenly he's ready if say the oilers go down 0 -2 makes sense how exactly?

I'm just a bit surprised because of the type of knee surgery he had and his recent comments... Dude looks fit, so I have high hopes that his first game back is going to have some serious bang behind it...

They do a plethora of tests to determine if a player is medically ready to play. Lots of parties involved that are affected by the decision, from the player and team, doctors, insurers, etc. What fans demand ‘just because’ is irrelevant.

Someone tell trent Frederic that.

He won't be. This news likely means that Kane isn't back these playoffs at all, unless we miraculously go on a deep run. Another few days isn't going to matter in his recovery, when he has already been out for 7 months.

High ankle sprains are a completely different kettle of fish than multiple surgeries.
and? They still cleared him when he wasn't ready because they needed the points. This feels more of a I don't want to mess with the lineup that's been set for the year but if things go south he'll put kane in. He even said he's ab option for game two like how does 2 days make a difference? I'd rather find out Kane isn't ready in game 1 than put him in game 3 if we're down 2 and than find out he isnt gonna be up to speed.
