Injury Thread '24-‘25 (Post 1 has current injury status)

Skinner's goal saved above expected/60 played is better than Pickards. For goalies with min 15 GP, Pickard is 52nd of 65 eligible goalies, while Skinner is 43rd. They are both bad, but Pickard is worse.
Yet Pickard has a better save %, a better winning % and a better ratio of games with a 0.900 or better save %. Neither are great, but between the 2 if I have to win a game I'd take Pickard.

He has largely played against inferior competition as well, which skew the raw stats like save% and GAA. This is why I like the GSAR metric myself. I don't think there is a massive difference between them this year though, they both kinda suck truthfully.

Didn't we beat Vegas with Pickard in net? You can play against worse teams but at the end of the day you still have to stop the puck.

Back to injuries discussion. I'm starting to really get concerned about Frederic. Not even on the ice for the morning pre-game skate. i sure hope he didn't aggravate it coming back too soon.

Well he 100% did do just that. Which is pretty common with high ankle sprains. The reality is that he likely isn't going to be anywhere near 100% this year, even if we make a deep run in the playoffs. Not uncommon for players to say high ankle sprains didn't feel right until 6 months later, usually over the entire off-season. they are tricky buggers of an injury unfortunately.

Pretty sure that he did. At this rate he's probably best to sit out load up on anti inflammatories and cortisone shots and take things easy. Come playoff time I'm guessing that pain meds and anti inflammatories will be getting taken like candy for him.

Wins and losses are what matter not goals saved above expected per 60. Pickard wins the majority of his games end of story. There is no universe in which Pickard has been the worse goalie this season.

I've had a bad one back in the day and for sure, they take a long time to recover from. Very under-rated injury in terms of it effect and scope.

I wonder why we haven’t heard anything about Kane doing a conditioning stint in the AHL. Would seem to make a ton of sense given the time missed

Bowman masterclass on Frederic man...I think he'll miss the first round entirely

My guess is he'll miss at least a couple games in series 1, and if we are lucky enough to pay beyond the first round, he will be completely ineffective due to his injury. High ankle sprains are a bitch.

Also, not a great timetable for Drai, basically means he'll still be somewhat injured for the playoffs.

I think it’s a given that Drai, Connor, Ek, Kane, etc will all be somewhat injured for the playoffs, just the reality of the situation.

Yeah me as well. It's the primary reason, that and goaltending, why I don't expect to do anything at all in the playoffs this year. I expect the kings to beat us in fact.

Wow. Reading Frederic is not even skating after his 7:10 toi twirl in LA. Now being projected as a maybe early playoff return.

I really liked the player type and how he looked in that 7:10 toi. But this troublesome injury type and erratic recovery timeline was most def a high risk reward bet by Oiler management. Further enflamed by the buy-high assets used to acquire and maximize retention including essentially taking on a cap dump Max Jones who didn't work out in Boston.

Jackson and Bowman who like to talk about their craft in terms of probability have paid their way into a not zero probability this deal shakes out as Bakersfield Condors player Max Jones and unsigned Euro Petr Hauser for 2nd and 4th round picks, prospect RD Wanner and draft rights to Lachance.

Hope there's a path to see at least a one-legged Trent Frederic this playoff and reasonable probability plan to re-sign an American who's only played in the North-East U.S. with family and friend connections on playoff teams in St. Louis and Florida.

Thanks for that depressing read. ;)

Oilers did not do their due diligence on that trade. At least Max Jones played. Some reports are suggesting Frederic might not be back till round 2
