Injury Report: Injured Players Thread (3/6: Staal Out Indefinitely; Not Career Threatening)

It was difficult to enjoy the win with thoughts of what happened to Staal :(

It makes you REALLY remember that these are real people, with real lives, and this is just a game (regardless of what they get paid). I sincerely hope Staalsy is okay and it's nothing serious. That was just scary to watch.

I'm optimistic. The way he left the ice. Lundqvist's comments. Girardi's expression during the post-game interview.

Has really dampened tonights victory, but I think Staal will be back sooner than expected.

Scariest moment of Staal's life probably tonight. This is coming from a guy who got hit in the eye with a puck this past Sunday in a hockey game. Not a Ranger fan but I hope he's alright. I would never wish that on anyone.

I'm just going to say the same thing I always say.

WEAR FACIAL PROTECTION.

I understand there's a "cool" factor and a "tough guy" image.

But you're not so cool and so tough with a broken orbital bone and loss of vision.

There is ZERO valid excuse not to wear the available protection.

Visor
Neck guard
Wrist guards
Skate fenders (http://www.hockeymonkey.com/skatefenders-hockey-accessories-skate-guard-pro.html)

Just wear the stuff.

Its better to suffer injuries and hurt your team by missing time?

Is there ANY word on how Staal is doing? I will be relieved if it's just a concussion. I'm extremely concerned with his vision. A blind eye is likely a career ender... Not to mention a terrible life changer.

TAKE THAT CAROLINA!:sarcasm: only seriously i almost agree... i have a feeling he'll miss a couple no matter what because there's no way he'll have vision with the swelling he's bound to have after that

I swear I cringed and I thgt he took it to the eye...brian berard 2.0 but I hope it cut him in the eyebrow instead....wear visors people

Craig Mactavish thinks otherwise. He was clearly going for "cool" and "tough guy".

I ****ing hate visors, personally. I hate them when I play paintball. I hate them when I test my buddies helmets. And I know for a fact that a lot of hockey players feel the same way. It's a comfort thing.

I sometimes drive without my seatbelt. I sometimes text and drive to. Regardless, driving with my seatbelt on and my complete attention is still dangerous. Do you propose we all drive tanks that can't exceed 30MPH, because they're safe?

I saw a hockey player knocked out once during a fight. Let's ban hockey.

I also saw a players skate slice human flesh. Let's enforce duller skates.

Relax dude.. **** happens. Hagelin wears a visor. If Staal had an arched visor like Hagelin's, it wouldn't have made any difference. Sticks rise up. Pucks typically do to. Visors do help limit facial injuries, but they don't prevent them completely.

Blues fan coming in peace. I send nothing but best wishes and a speedy recovery to Marc Staal on that scary puck near the eye tonight, scary stuff, reminded me on what happened to Berard.

Players have been playing without visors forever.

Players have been playing without helmets for most of NHL's existence. That is not an argument.

Luckily the eyeball has some give in the eye socket.... I know no one wants to get hit with a puck like that but I'd be much more nervous if it was a stick that had got him....

Someone hooked my face in an inline hockey game and cut me just a half inch below the eye.... From that day forward I placed a visor on my helmet because I told myself I would never forgive myself if I suffered an eye injury after that close call...

I don't care whether you wear a visor, that's you're own safety in question. However, when you text and drive you are putting others safety at risk. Don't be selfish.

This was probably posted already, but the gif makes it look like it BARELY missed:

I just made it one.

Did I mention my car's a manual? ;)

Apparently Staal didn't have to go to the hospital so that is a huge sigh of relief that he did not need emergency surgery.

We have to be thankful that it was at least a deflected puck which took some velocity out of the hit. (I know if there was no deflection he would not have been hit at all but still). It looks like it just missed hitting him square on the eye. Worst thing I've witnessed watching hockey.
