I wasn't anticipating or even really following this because the last movie was so disappointing and AAA games are so often unoptimized and issue-riddled these days, but I like what I just heard in Digital Foundry's tech review. He says that it shows a real love and respect for Indy and runs at a consistent 60fps, even with ray traced global illumination, thanks to being based on the id Tech engine (like DOOM Eternal). It's nice to see another game use the buttery id Tech engine instead of the stuttery Unreal Engine. It doesn't look like the kind of gameplay that I usually enjoy much, but if it really feels like the first three movies and runs well, I'm interested.

A quick check of Metacritic and OpenCritic shows a score of 86 on both, so critical reviews are generally positive.

It's out Monday now for Windows and Xbox Series X/S and is coming in the first half of 2025 for PS5 (a bit surprising that it's coming at all, since it's a Bethesda/Microsoft-published game).

yeah I saw this dropped today I'm intrigued
It's out today if you bought the deluxe version, it's out Monday for everyone else.

I knew MachineGames did the recent Wolfenstein games but I had forgotten that they did the excellent Chronicles of Riddick game from 20 years ago and that this Indy game is closer to that gameplay wise. Being a FPS without much of the S is interesting. Might have to get GP for a month and "rent" this.

Thanks for the clarification. I checked on Wikipedia and the Steam page and both gave Monday as the release date, so I thought that it wasn't out yet. I was confused as to why there were Steam reviews already. I didn't notice the option for the Premium Edition, which says "out now." $99.99 is a lot for nothing more than 3 days of early access. At least 93% of the people who paid that are happy with their purchase, though.

Definitely gonna play this one this weekend, assuming I can rip myself away from Marvel Rivals.

I was legitimately excited when I heard the game wouldn’t be first person because it meant there’d be no uncharted climbing slop and it could do its own thing. What a letdown.

The game is first person, but I've read that it occasionally switches to 3rd person when doing certain actions, such as climbing.

I'm excited for it. Raiders is legit one of my favorite movies and the scene with the opening of the ark of the covenant is for my money still one of the best uses of practical effects in a movie given it holds up pretty well 40+ years later.

This game sounds like it does everything it needs to do to be considered a good Indy game.

When they announced this I was expected an Uncharted clone where it's about big set pieces and shooting hundreds of enemies along the way. It sounds like more of an adventure/puzzle game which is a lot more appealing to me.

I'll probably give this one a shot.

I had no idea MachineGames had a bunch of ex-Starbreeze employees. The Darkness is one of my favorite games of its generation, might have to check this out!

I loved The Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure. I remember getting a passport signed by Hitler instead of the Mein Kampf to easily get passed a part with multiple checkpoints.

PC version is looking good, looking forward to seeing what the path tracing mode is like.
It's like going back to the hardware that you had 6 years ago to eliminate the visual artifacts that you also didn't have then.

I would be more excited about all these new features if they didn't massively drop the framerate down even on high end hardware.

This game is fantastic. It’s fun, gorgeous, and lets you play whatever style you want. It also appears to have shipped bug-free, which seems to be rare these days. Haven’t run into any issues.

It’s actually kind of creepy how much Troy Baker sounds like Harrison Ford.

If anyone is having problems with DLSS on PC, try disabling HDR. For some reason frame generation would not work for me with the in game HDR enabled. I turned it off and switched to Auto HDR, now everything works fine.

I was surprised to see some stuttering in the opening area after DF claimed there wasn't any aside from cutscenes and checkpoints. That might be exclusive to the path tracing mode. Aside from that the game looks really nice. Haven't got far enough to judge the gameplay though.
