In retrospect, how good of a goalie was Steve Mason?

How gud?

Steve Mason started out his career very strong with a good albeit not great rookie season. Then he struggled mightily until he was traded to the Flyers where he actually posted good numbers until his final season. He plays one last season with the jets in a backup role in which he was just okay.

How'd you rate his career?

Mostly good, but he had some inexcusably weak seasons if you look at what his less-than-stellar backups could do.

Very flawed, blocking style. Mostly a product of DPE 2.0. Most of the goalie population was wiped out by the rule changes from 2005. Only the super adaptable and elites survived, so there was a wave of gimmicky guys, journeymen, fly-by-night types during this time...
