In his second game back in Buffalo - Jack Eichel scores a hat trick, then stares down the crowd.

He probably some random fan say something terrible on social media. A lot of these athletes look at that stuff and let it get to them.
Yep - it‘s human nature to want to know what people say about you.

Anyone who says otherwise is LYING

I understand the emotional aspect from Buffalo fans, but the fact is, Eichel was tired playing for an organization that failed to put together a good team. 10 (6 with Eichel) straight seasons without making the playoffs. I'd want to jump ship too.
Buffalo is going to make the playoffs without him

You mean the organization that gave him an immediate $80M contract at a time when the most points he ever scored was 57??? He was captain of that team. He demanded the trade after the best year of his career and they missed the playoffs by 1 spot (though it was the expanded covid playoffs). Spare me the empathy for this douche. And you know what, when he came back last year, he didn't chose to criticize the organization. he decided to piss on the fans who supported him all those years his self-entitled ass was there. That dude is toxic.
The Sabres organization has been a mess for a decade. Six different coaches, 4 different GMs. Guy is in his prime and wants to play playoff hockey, and it's not happening in Buffalo. Not the past 11 years, and not this year either.

Pissed on the fans? They pissed on him first once he wanted to leave, because he wants to be apart of a winning organization, which is not Buffalo.

Again, I understand the emotional side from Sabres fans, but logically there's no blaming him.

I guess if you're OK with people who quit. I think your take is stupid. This dude quit on a fanbase that worshiped him. And then he pissed on them when he came back. Loser.

Call it what you want, giving up on shitty ownership/management is fine by me. The fans turned on him first and he's just giving it back.

I feel for Buffalo fans, I really do. But I can't blame the guy for wanting to play for a better run organization. He's got one career and he didn't see anything changing anytime soon.

This is Eichel's mindset in a nutshell:

I think "booed just for existing" is a bit of a reductive take. Eichel and the Sabres didn't exactly part on the most positive of terms, especially considering he was the captain of the team and was the top prospect in the draft outside of McDavid.

That said, I hope this feud continues. It is incredibly entertaining.

It was electric last night

I feel sliiiightly vindicated defending Eichels quality as a player. It was weird how people’s sympathy for him shifted so rapidly and suddenly it flipped;

plus people acting like he was the reason his team couldn’t compete before rather than the awful coach who made most of their guys play worse, or the lack of depth that was actually remedied somewhat in that trade

Anyways, same exact thing with Tarasenko the years before. Major injury, hadn’t played in a while and while he was “cleared to play” mid season, being healed isn’t the same as being conditioned.

Both guys came back to spiraling teams with major injury issues and stuff probably going on in the background. Both teams rebounded the next year as did Tarasenko and Eichel

I hate the Vegas org but I like a lot of their players. Always felt bad Eichel was having his prime years wasted by shit management and ownership (*I know the new management is better; he was injured his last year there as the whole team played awful with freddy)

Maybe one day fans and player on both sides can be happy with the result.

A good example of Eichel’s peak as a player…and how you just don’t see it game in and game out. I’ve that he flashed it against his old team…but it really highlights all the times he simply doesn’t play like that

Not playing .500 hockey they aren't... Not sure what you've been watching this season. Same shit, different season, which is why Eichel wanted out...

Can you guess where Eichel will be in April?
I'd love to be optimistic to the point where I can watch my team be a laughing stock for a decade and still get my hopes up when they look decent for 10 games.

Of course there is blaming him... it doesn't change the fact that the Sabres FO was terrible for years but he has his blame as well. Nobody has ever accused Eichel of giving 100% to turning things around here.

Thanks for that reminder of what a f***ing moron Murray is/was. Having to explain your “disappointment” comment to your top pick before you even pick him- absolute dumbass, that’s an internal thought my guy, not something you say out loud. Gee, wonder what soured Jack from the absolute start?

I’m kinda in the minority in being fine with him wanting out- I think some fans have mellowed, but obviously that’s an emotional thing for most- but it’s obnoxious how personally he took it. You wanted out, what did you think would happen? We spend hundred of dollars to wear another grown man’s name on our back, we paint our faces and make stupid chants, if he thought people would be completely rational and would see things from his perspective he’s.. not the best at social iq, apparently.

Oh, and Sabres might not be a playoff team this year, but it’s about time people stop assuming past failings are still present.
Never thought that an empty-netter should count for that purpose.

What sucks is there was a fantastic block just before that- Eich got spoonfed a good chance and blew it, then soars it 195 feet so he can gloat on Buffalo in November. I’ll be honest, kinda a nice empty netter, kinda fun, but also ya, maybe count hat tricks and hat tricks with an EN goal differently.
