In case anyone still thinks McDavid isn’t a great playoff performer, know this.

Who is saying he's not a playoff performer?

In the last 4 years he's had 60gp 40g 108pts for 1.8 pts/gp. The Oilers have gotten to the points they are because of him
For many years the narative was that he should learn how to play playoffs hockey, that his production drops in playoffs. 9 points in 13 games was terrible. That he focuses too much on scoring in regular season instead of saving his energy for playoffs.

This narative slowed down after 2021-22 season, but there are still posters blaming him for not winning a cup or 3.

What does this have to do with anything ? Point is he’s putting up all time level performances, and anyone blaming him for the oilers not winning yet simply has an agenda
I have literally never seen a person blame McJesus for Edmonton not winning cups.
It’s been the exact opposite actually.

Does anyone actually not think he’s an all time great playoff performer? I get that there’s a few trolls here and there but HF posters are by and large a very knowledgeable group about hockey.

You don’t even have to like the Oilers to enjoy watching McDavid play, especially in the playoffs where he finds even another gear.

Edit: I guess there is one in this thread that doesn’t think so. Hard to tell if @Fatass is being serious or not

Exactly! Then (leading his club to a Cup) he will be. The playoffs and legacy of the greatest players is about Cups.
Do you think McDavid’s tearing a strip off his teammates after going down 0-3 to the Panthers last playoffs had anything to do with his collecting points or about winning the Cup?

Yes until he wins he is behind Patrick Maroon

He has 108 points over 60 games in his past 4 postseasons.

But if the Oilers don’t win the Cup, it will solely be his fault according to some.

I don't think anyone around here is saying he isn't a great playoff performer anymore. An all-time great even.

But - you can still be great and get called out for specific events. ie - some were calling him out last year for not having a huge game 7 in finals, which is warranted.

How much of a Cup is really related to who your GM is and what era (cap or non cap) you play in?

Because Wayne and Mario never won shit without the deck being loaded heavily in their favor. The teams Gretzky won with were so good they could win a Cup without him. Mario needed players like Mullen (leading scorer of 89 Flames team), Coffey (the Makar of his era) Jagr and even more added before he could win, lol.

Those rosters were head and shoulders better than everyone else. If you only win when you are an overwhelming favorite with a roster that would be $25 million over the cap in the modern era, I mean sure great, but it does say something that those guys couldn't do much with more ordinary rosters (even with 1-2 other top players). It needed to be close to All-Star team rosters to win.

Even as is, the Oilers probably would have won the Cup last year if Draisaitl and Kane were healthy. Kane hasn't played for like a calendar year and thrown into the playoffs has been a difference maker this year.

In case anyone still thinks Matthews doesn't have impeccable fashion sense, know this
I wouldn't call wearing a jacket, purse and scarf combo my grandmother would kill to own, impeccable fashion sense...

auston matthews is about to steal ...

Has anyone ever said he isnt a great playoff performer or regular season for that matter? No.

How much of a say does he have in roster construction?
His agent is the boss...why not push for a real goalie?
So depending on how much stroke he has, he could be at fault on the management side as well.
Mcdavid haters are now blaming bad goaltending on him…?

This is new low.

The only people that say McDavid is not a good playoff performer are the same Oiler or McDavid haters that post the same type of nonsense in most of their posts.
or they are still living in 2017. Every single playoff hes' ever played in he was above a 1PPG pace, except for one year where he was at 1PPG exactly.

This stinks like all the media and podcasters placing so much weight on the first 2 games of the LA series while ignoring the last 4 games when talking about the Oilers. They can't see straight when it comes to McDavid or the Oilers.

Career wise McDavid has 130 point in 81 games...in the playoffs, if those were regular season numbers that would be a great season and enough to win the hart and art ross.

Have you been living under a rock?

There’s 100 places you can look, but start simply at just the “McDavid too good to not win a cup” threads or the early stages of LA vs EDM threads.

Hell there were posters blaming McDavid for losing GM 1 despite putting up 4pts because “all the points came later in the game”
