Who cares if he wasn't a 2nd overall pick? He didn't play like a 2nd overall pick. Maybe the teams trading Yakupov should have gotten more value.
It’s just more horrific asset management from Drury and co.

A) you should be getting more out of a 2nd overall pick , not just in trade value, but in player value. This issue with the Rangers still exists. Even if Borgen is right now providing as much or more to the Rangers than Kakko was this season.

B)you can find a Will Borgen anywhere, anytime, for cheap.

DJsleepy and the carcas of what used to be Chris Kreider with another brain dead uninspiring half assed game last night.

CK earned his paycheck with 1 shot all night while sleepy again played his quaalude inspired stumbling bumbling turnover dance routine.

Spoon-feeding these 2 prime PP1 minutes is criminal.

Defensively the difference is obvious. Even miller seems like he's paying attention and actually trying. Borg and Val have settled this group down. It's fun to watch all the forwards ( not breadman) buy in too.

The sooner 93 and 20 are gone, the sooner we can actually buy in to this playoff push stuff. Let's not forget. Neither of those guys are really playoff types anyway.
I think you’ve accepted too many drinks across bar.

didn’t someone last night describe his goal as “arguably the turning point in the game”?

A goal to go up 3-0…in a game where the other team got shut out…in a game where the other team got 1 high danger scoring chance through 60 minutes…
The game didn’t turn. Don’t get me wrong, great game, but I stand by observation. Trust me, I hope he keeps it up. He can be an important part of this team moving forward.

And yet we haven't found a Will Borgen?

You can find a third line winger anywhere, anytime, for cheap. If Kakko wasn't a 2nd overall all of the anger over asset management wouldn't be there. But it's completely irrelevant unless there's a stupid GM somewhere.

for some reason Ottawa is just one of those teams that I feel like goddamn what a garbage franchise
Partly because they were run so poorly for so long and partly they've lately just been one of those "but they have so much talent surely they're on the cusp of playoffs/a cup!"

Still garbage.

and I know everyone loves Stutzle but every time I watch them he's not nearly as visible as I feel like he should be for the hype he gets.
If you have Brady as a captain, you’re bound to have a dysfunctional team.

Another thing about Kakko was he had signed a 1 year contract expiring this year. Whatever value he has would just be realized by him as a free agent. I highly doubt we would have been bidders. Better to bail on him now and get a 3rd and 6th plus Borgen who fits our needs to a T. This whole wishful thinking about oh he was drafted 2nd overall is like saying that stock I bought 5 years ago is worth less now, boohoo, I want what I paid for it from when I bought it. Nothing matters but value right now. Smart that we moved on and the results show it was smart.

Plus, really good cheap defensemen just grow on trees? Why didnt we get that memo and instead had really crummy expensive defenseman Trouba for ridiculous 8.5mm a year. Give me a break.

He got paid 8.5 million dollars but he gave 8.5 millimeters of performance.

Because we are horrible at player evaluation , scouting , contract negotiations, and development .

The fact that Vaak and Borgen are playing decently for us for the last 2 weeks in depth roles doesn’t change that fact.

Will Borgen once lost his stick in the defensive zone due to uncontrollable circumstances and no teammate gave him his stick. Will Borgen proceeded to play the best stickless defense he could, and he survived. As countless shots were being sent his exposed way, he didn't once yell at a teammate for a stick. He never complained. Because that's how it was in World War II. You did the job to the best of your ability. You gave your word. There's no whining. There's no complaining.

Will Borgen survived that day without his stick.

No, you do not find a Will Borgen anywhere.

Ok that's nice but he still should have just skated to the bench to get one.

Chytil, Sykora and a conditional first for Giant Baby Tkachuk. The look he had on his face all game yesterday was one of a guy expecting to waltz into MSG and have his way with us. Igor, Rempe and the Rangers said nyet.

Here again is Will Borgen making Brady Tkachuk go out of his mind, and Borgen just troll smiles

It's bringing up 2OA when it's convenient. I think we're unanimous in our analysis that he was never a fit here because of the team's personnel makeup and play style. But we can't change what happened, which is his performance here was more like a second-rounder or late first if we're being generous. It's market value, what the market determined for a player with that type of performance. No one saw 2OA plastered on his forehead when considering a trade with the Rangers.

As for Will Borgen, the Rangers are not a team that chases available and easy-to-acquire players to make them the 2RD. They would've gone after a big-name but square-peg player to fill a round 2RD hole here. A guy like Borgen coming here and becoming 2RD only happens via a semi-desperate trade to get rid of benign cyst/potential malcontent that was Kakko, part fortunate happenstance, and part Drury's claim that he eyed Borgen for a while to fill 2RD left by jettisoning actively malignant Jacob Trouba,

No one can tell me that Borgen and Vaakanainen haven't helped the team more than Trouba and Kakko. So far, they have shown that Drury has won on those trades.

Tbh the Rangers putting an end to that insane man on man D zone experiment they were running earlier, and going super defensive (and super boring), is the biggest reason for the change in the Rangers fortune. They obviously brought in Vaakanainen and Borgen, limited but relatively solid d-men of the right archetype, with the Template in mind (i.e. Lavi's comfort zone). It's no coincidence that the team is much better without Trouba (and Lindgren). Some of us did not want either back in the team, after they'd been out injured, before the playoffs started last season...

The Rangers taking big victory laps for defeating a clearly pooped Senators team that had nothing in the tank is simply funny.

They had more rest coming into this game than the NYR did.

Just FYI.

You know Brady is pacing around mumbling to himself today as Rempe, Borgen and Igor live rent free in his head. Shut out 5 to zero. How embarrassing ..
