Yup not feeling it at all this year. Dubas has sucked the life out of the team for me. Worse than last year and still not built for playoff hockey. Don't care what any of turn that frown upside down crowd says. Gladly eat my words

this whole, “the playoffs are the only thing that matters” nonsense that has taken over pro sports narratives is so overdone. I turn the Leafs on because I want to watch a hockey game.
It would nice not to go decades without a playoff win. They play to win. Good for you if you don't care about playoff success

It would absolutely be nice to win a playoff round. However, it's utterly ridiculous that you would confuse what I wrote as not caring about playoff success. There's a difference between caring about playoff success and caring so much about playoff success that you're determined to be miserable about everything else. It's a massive shame that you've convinced yourself that a President's Trophy contender of a team isn't even worth watching. It's a shame that you've convinced yourself that I'm somehow lesser of a fan because I won't join you in your misery any more.

There's no prize for being the most miserable Leaf fan. You're welcome to the title if you want it and I'm sure it will get you some level of notoriety around here. Go ahead and fill your boots, but I don't think it will make you happy. I think you'd be much happier if you learned to love the Leafs again. If we can survive 4-1, losing to the Habs in 7, and the Zamboni driver, we'll be here forever so we might as well enjoy it.

Normally I'm excited for the start of every year but this year it's just meh. There is just so little to look forward too. They've done everything

-Team set it's points records.
-Auston won the individual awards now and set the Leaf Records.
-Marner is B2B 1st team All Star, nothing left to prove.
-Rielly signed long term, no UFA drama
-Nylander had his best year it will only go down
-Tavares will regress, and we will continue to complain about his cap hit
-Robertson is the only prospect that could even make the team and might still end up in the minors
-Goalies are new but it's pretty much lateral changes at best.
-All the new skaters players are bottom 6 wingers

They'll score a lot of goals, they'll give up a lot of goals, they'll win a lot of games, make the playoffs and play someone from Florida. There is no cap space to make a big TDL deal so this is it. Can we just fast forward to April.

I thought last year was an 82 game preseason but for the individuals it really meant something so that was fun to watch..... Now that they've accomplished basically everything possible in the regular season it really is an 82 game preseason and I just DGAF. Never thought I'd say that.

Anyone else feel like this?

Nope.

Happy for every season even in the 70s or when we were tanking. There is always something that develops that grabs my attention more than just the games.

I was like that last year, you put in 2 to 3 hours a night every other night for 6 to 7 months only to have the same feeling of disappointment.. I enjoy watching the Leafs more because its hockey than I enjoy watching them because they are my team, the feeling I have today vs how I felt in the early 90's... much different.

I guess it’s all a matter of mindset. I watch hockey for the pure enjoyment of the sports, and we’re as good as we have ever been. Like we are literally watching franchise history unfolding with Matthews and Marner every game.

But if storylines are what you need to get into it, here are some:

- Matthews and Marner to reach Leafs top 10 in all-time points?
- Marner first time reaching 100 points?
- Can Matthews be the first 60 goal scorer to repeat in the cap era?
- Can a healthy Matthews flirt with 70 goals?
- Division title? Presidents trophy?
- Can the Leafs set the franchise record again?
- Does Robertson make an impact this year?
- Does Knies join the team for a playoff run?
- Can Sandin and Liljegren take a step and cement themselves as top 4 defensemen?
- Will Murray and Samsonov be the answer in goal?
- Can Rielly pass Turnbull for 4th in all-time points among Leafs defensemen
- Can Matthews repeat as Hart and Ted Lindsay winner?
- Could Keefe win the Jack Adams?
- Will a Leaf challenge for the Art Ross or the Selke this year?
- Will the Leafs depth adds pan out?
- Can Matthews score 50 in 50?

Not at all… when you have Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner on your team… prepare to be entertained.

I'm excited for the opportunity to watch our boys play, people take this team for granted. Remember all the the dark years with no prospects, no players worth watching. I don't care what happens I'm watching every game possible, we are blessed to have a talent like Matthews. Regardless of what happens I am going to take in as much as I can of it, some people here don't realize how lucky we are to watch guys like Matthews/Marner and call them our guys.

I'm excited to see the boys play, step up and learn from past mistakes. I'm excited to be the best team in the Atlantic and a legit contender. I'm excited to watch Matthews possibly make history again. I'm excited to watch Robertson and see what he brings to the lineup. I'm excited to see where our new goaltending duo can take us, it's pre-season yes, but both of them played phenomenal. I'm excited for another post-season and I'm excited for what Dubas is going to pull off. The team is as good as it's ever been, he's on the hot seat so he has to make something happen, but it also feels as if the stars have aligned for us this year, I strongly believe this is the year to go all in, trade futures/prospects and make a deep run. All of our divisional rivals have gotten significantly weaker while we have remained the same at worst, Colorado is not the same powerhouse but still a favorite, Carolina is an elite team. People laugh at us and mock us and will continue to do so, but this is the year for Dubas to go all in, this is the year for the boys to show us that it's different now, our chances will never be better than they are now. There is tons to be excited about this year and I look forward to watching every single game.

Call me corny idgaf, I BE LEAF

One thing to add to the dour mood of this thread is last night's preseason game. That was the showcase of the team's up and coming (and depth) talent. I know some will disagree but there's a noticeable gap between all of them and actual NHL players at this moment. The players who most looked to be NHLers last night were the NHLers: Sandin, Samsonov, Simmonds and Clifford. That doesn't mean some of the youngest don't eventually develop into NHL level talent but I'm not super confident that any major impact to the 2022-23 roster is coming from within.

Thought they put on a good showing against detroit's starting lineup myself.

Who cares if we win or lose? I hope the guys have fun and enjoy taking part. We're just fortunate there are 32 teams out there having fun. All 32 teams are a winner in my book, with no one being any better or worse than the other.

I agree. Last night looked like a hardworking, young team that struggled defensively against a largely veteran NHL lineup and lacked finish with their chances. Thing is most of our best prospects were not involved: Knies, Amirov, Niemela, Hirvonen, Minten etc and the players who were playing are largely projected to be depth pieces in their NHL futures - precisely what the Leafs actually need

I've barely paid attention this off-season and pre-season. I do think I largely blame it on the Jays taking my attention.

We'll see what happens if and when the Jays' season is done.

I used to make the season opener a big thing...now...I enjoy my quiet evening and watch the great 34.

All I care about is the post-season, everything else...just have fun and enjoy the moment is my approach.

People talk about losing in 7 games after 82 as a waste, and you bring up the Jays who could be gone in 2 after 162 games of watching paint dry?

😉
