Normally I'm excited for the start of every year but this year it's just meh. There is just so little to look forward too. They've done everything

-Team set it's points records.
-Auston won the individual awards now and set the Leaf Records.
-Marner is B2B 1st team All Star, nothing left to prove.
-Rielly signed long term, no UFA drama
-Nylander had his best year it will only go down
-Tavares will regress, and we will continue to complain about his cap hit
-Robertson is the only prospect that could even make the team and might still end up in the minors
-Goalies are new but it's pretty much lateral changes at best.
-All the new skaters players are bottom 6 wingers

They'll score a lot of goals, they'll give up a lot of goals, they'll win a lot of games, make the playoffs and play someone from Florida. There is no cap space to make a big TDL deal so this is it. Can we just fast forward to April.

I thought last year was an 82 game preseason but for the individuals it really meant something so that was fun to watch..... Now that they've accomplished basically everything possible in the regular season it really is an 82 game preseason and I just DGAF. Never thought I'd say that.

Anyone else feel like this?

Nope. But we all have our own particular feelings on everything. I am more excited now for this season, as it's looking like the bottom 6 might be less of an issue than it was.

And I HATED the goaltending duo we had last season. Nothing against them, but I knew Campbell was too fragile physically and emotionally to be 'the guy'. Mrazek was a risk, but I didn't expect him to implode like that.

But that's exactly what the regular season is for a cup contending team.....evaluation. And it's an interesting process.

Plus watching top end talent is something that has been a joy after having been missing that for literally decades. Sundin excepted.

this whole, “the playoffs are the only thing that matters” nonsense that has taken over pro sports narratives is so overdone. I turn the Leafs on because I want to watch a hockey game.

Yeah, life is too damn short for me to be handwringing about the result of a two week performance 6 months before it happens. This team is too skilled and fun to watch night in and night out for me to either not watch or sit there being angry. Yeah I hope this team goes on a run in the playoffs and wins the Cup but me being miserable before then isn’t conducive to that goal.

Nothing wrong with taking a step back if you're not organically wanting to watch. When you treat being a fan like a job it will wear you down. I would really recommend only watching when you genuinely feel like watching. That's what I did last year and it eliminated a lot of the overly emotional stuff that only serves to make your day worse. Doesn't make the playoffs hurt any less, but it feels a lot healthier throughout the season.

Assuming by your post your a bandwagon fan who started following in 2017? Only assuming so because if you watched the absolute shit show we had before this, you'd appreciate that while it has been frustrating to not win rounds, the team is elite, we have superstars including the best goal scorer in the league on our roster, and we are a yearly playoff team.

This will likely never happen again having this high quality of talent on the same roster so enjoy the ride. Plenty of time to not watch when they age out or a new GM blows it up and we're drafting 7th OA every year again.

Not really meant for the OP, but yeah I still love the Leafs. I don't really care if all they have given me is heartbreak since I became a big fan. I will always adore them and be nervous on game days:laugh:
Yeah first round losses but I'm happy at least we have a playoff team to care about unlike the Nonis Burke eras. Like you said, fun team and I'm not getting upset before the season. Enjoy the ride good or bad

Yep.

Not to mention it reduces the whole sport to nothing more than a handful of final game scores over a couple months of the year.

I follow this sport beacuse it's awesome and I want to be entertained.

The good times aren't going to last forever, so enjoy them while you can. The team was dogshit for a decade plus - THATS something to not look forward to.

If it's not fun, then don't watch. No one pays you or thanks you to do this.

I like following the Leafs, even when they lose. It's just entertainment. If the Leafs don't entertain you, maybe their opponent will?

There's no prize for the fans if they win, or lose!

So spoiled, shouldn't take the success in the regular season for granted, you forget the pain of watching the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2005 to 2015, wishing we would be in a position like we are now with really good players and coming in the top 5 of the league.
For years the Leafs couldn't even make the playoffs for years at a time.

Now they make the playoffs year-in and year-out, with a better team each season, and that's not good enough either. Time to stop watching until the playoffs.

Next if they win the Stanley Cup, we' ll have to stop watching because chances are they won't repeat.

That's the way it works, right?

I guess it’s all a matter of mindset. I watch hockey for the pure enjoyment of the sports, and we’re as good as we have ever been. Like we are literally watching franchise history unfolding with Matthews and Marner every game.

But if storylines are what you need to get into it, here are some:

- Matthews and Marner to reach Leafs top 10 in all-time points?
- Marner first time reaching 100 points?
- Can Matthews be the first 60 goal scorer to repeat in the cap era?
- Can a healthy Matthews flirt with 70 goals?
- Division title? Presidents trophy?
- Can the Leafs set the franchise record again?
- Does Robertson make an impact this year?
- Does Knies join the team for a playoff run?
- Can Sandin and Liljegren take a step and cement themselves as top 4 defensemen?
- Will Murray and Samsonov be the answer in goal?
- Can Rielly pass Turnbull for 4th in all-time points among Leafs defensemen
- Can Matthews repeat as Hart and Ted Lindsay winner?
- Could Keefe win the Jack Adams?
- Will a Leaf challenge for the Art Ross or the Selke this year?
- Will the Leafs depth adds pan out?
- Can Matthews score 50 in 50?
