Positive for sure. If there was a risk of damaging his wrist further with a fall you have to think he would not be allowed out on the ice. Might be further along than we think.

A broken thumb isn't as minor as it first seems. It takes a long time to get the grip strength back and it's got to affect your ability to shoot. It's probably one of those things where you can play later than everyone's wondering why you keep flubbing open shots, missing passes, keep losing your stick, etc. It might be that Mikheyev will be like a trade deadline addition in that that's when he rounds back into form again.

So he should be about as good with his stick pre injury than...

I miss Micheyev TBH.

I really think he will be a force on the Kampf/Kase Line. Not that I've been upset with Pierre's play, Because I haven't, I just think Ilya is the far less risky player. Pierre has actually looked fairly good this year, and that is coming from someone who is not a fan of his game.

He still makes 1-2 braindead plays a game, and some have already cost us this year. But to be fair, we are already 12 games or so into the year so that is to be expected to a degree. I am not sure where I see Engvall once Micky comes back TBH. I think he deserves to be in the lineup over Ritchie off of play alone, but we also don't have a big body like Ritchie anywhere else in the lineup.

Yes Ritchie has been our worst forward by a mile, but we really do need him to start making an impact in that reduced role. Which he appears to be doing in the last couple games.

Nick is not a top 6 guy, but he is also not the player we've seen through the first 10 games. There is a reason why Sheldon keeps giving him opportunities up the lineup when injuries occur. He knows he is better than what he has shown. He just needs to gain a bit of confidence. He will never be fast, he never was before. But he can be more engaged in the play, and has the ability to make good plays with the puck on his stick. In all honesty, he's been around the net a lot in recent games, and should have had a couple goals by now. It's just not going in for him.

I am not sure how it will shake up, but I am assuming Holl will be traded to allow for Pierre to stick on the active roster once Micky returns. They will then likely call up Mennel to act as the 7D and run:

Bunting - Matthews - Nylander
Kerfoot - JT - Marner
Micheyev - Kampf - Kase
Ritchie - Spezza - Simmonds
Engvall

Rielly - Dermott
Muzzin - Brodie
Sandin - Liljegren
Mennel

Campbell/Mrazek

not sure if the money works on that, I haven't checked. But I think it would, or at the very least be very close.

Push Engvall a little further down and this is pretty good.
He and Holl need to go.

Would not be surprised if they take the opportunity to move him while he has looked OK. Truth be told, there really is not much of a difference between Engvall and Seymonov when we are talking about our 13th forward. May as well go with the cheaper option

Mrazek on verge of return, Mikheyev still a work in progress - TSN.ca

While Toronto’s complement to Jack Campbell seems ready to return, forward Ilya Mikheyev isn’t quite there yet.

The injured winger was a full participant in Friday’s practice, but Keefe said he still needs to build up his strength before returning to game action.

“[Mikheyev] was out there today, it was really his first practice – full practice – with us and it was a brief practice. Just trying to get him back up to speed… I think it’s a strength issue right now. We continue to monitor that and when that gets to an acceptable level then you’re ready to play. But in the meantime, he’s going to continue to work out here to stay sharp.”

Mikheyev is yet to make his regular-season debut after suffering a broken thumb in the preseason finale that required surgery. Keefe said the Russian is scheduled to see a specialist on Friday, but the team is happy with how things have healed.

“[Mikheyev] is such a dynamic player for us, both sides of the puck,” captain John Tavares said. “And you know, his work ethic, the way he approaches every day. I think the drive that he has to make a big impact, especially his skill set, can obviously be massive for us. He’s such a weapon throughout the lineup and brings so much to the table.

“We love him as a guy and in the locker room he continues to feel ever more comfortable in his own skin being here for a few years now. So, we’re excited for him. It’s been a long process for him, and it’s been tough. I know he took it really tough, the injury, initially.”

It will be interesting to see how the club approaches his next contract. I give him Ritchie's cap hit in a heartbeat but not sure that will get it done?

Big fan of this player, Mikheyev fits with Kampf/Kase like a glove. What a nightmare that line would be to play against.

Hopefully they can split Ritchie’s cap hit into re-signing Mikheyev and Kase.

I'm not even sure he's worth 1.6 let alone 2.5
