Classic move for a team to dick a guy around for years and waste his career. They just signed a boatload of wingers to push him down the depth chart too
This is so far from the truth.

How could you justify handing this guy a spot in your top 6 without any competition?

Apparently the Leafs have now added Borscht to their nutritional guidelines. Also Mikheyev has coincidentally rescinded his trade request lol

That logic doesnt compute with me, unless this report is 8 months delayed. If he wants out because he was the odd one out, shouldn't he finally be happy now that the depth has thinned out?

At exit meetings, It's not necessarily "certain" that the Leafs LW depth was going to be as thin as it is this year.

As a player, it's also easier to approach that meeting with "please trade me to somewhere that I'll get a better opportunity", rather than "please make sure I have a better opportunity here".

Sounds like a guy who wants s more money, and knows that can’t happen in TO.

Not according to the report. He wants a bigger role and more ice time, and was told by the team that he is expected to be a key player.

So he isn't going to play in the top 6 (maybe 4th line according to posters here), wasn't great coming off injury, and the Leafs view him as a key player and want to hold on to him?

Sounds good. I hope they keep him. It does sound logical to trade your 3.29M AAV winger who might play on the 4th line, but hey, I'm not the Leafs.

How long does bad luck last? For Illya it's never been anything but. I say he's a flash in the pan guy that looks like he could score, but very rarely does.
oh I know just felt like bad puck luck. with that speed and those chances he usually gets. You would think he could find away to throw more in.
I viewed him as a Grabner, speedy winger who usually scores between 15-20 goals

I can see his luck turning around eventually I mean he's just so fast and gets perfect chances to score

I think he's projected for 2nd line duties atleast right now he is.
I mean Ill take his speed over Kerfoot, Kampf, Simmonds, Bunting, Engvall or Spezza on the 2nd line

Maybe Kase? if he's healthy that is

Mikheyev has a 1.64 AAV and plays on the third line.

He's projected to play on the 2nd line right now according to capfriendly
is there a team he could challenge for 1st line mins?
He prob just wants a change of scenery after success of the Leafs in the playoffs since he joined them
He just wants to win and I get the feeling he doesnt see it in Toronto :(

oh well

He made the request at the end of the season. We have no idea if he still wants to be traded. "... the organization told Mikheyev it considers him a key part of their team and are counting on him to have a big year."
Sabres re-engage interested teams after meeting with Eichel's representatives - Sportsnet.ca

Likely he is happy now.
It is possible he can even take Hyman's role.

His points/60 suggests he was played where he belonged last season.

This is what happens when a club doesn't demonstrate to players that when they put the work in and get results, they get rewarded.

weird how the news just leaked though
I would have to assume he's still wanting a trade. hes likely just not happy here anymore and wanted a chance else where.
Honestly I have a hard time seeing any player being happy in Toronto right now.

I'm a huge fan and Im not even remotely excited to watch them. have to assume they feel the same about playing
I mean the paycheques are awesome so there's that to get excited about for our players

If they keep this guy and bury him on the third line the so called free wallet players from other leagues will try other teams
At the end of the year he will have earned the right to chose free agency. If the Leafs flounder he could be traded. That is part of professional sports and it applies to all teams.
