Ill-timed Stone puck dive causes Heiskanen to blow out his knee

Dont log into HF that often but had to after seeing all these smooth brain takes. I'm an Oil fan and certified Vegas hater, but this was a nothing play.

Stone doesnt superman dive into anybodys knee wtf are we talking about??? Hes clearly lunging to make a poke and probably wouldve been able to do so cleanly if he isnt clipped by Hintz.

His momentum is towards Miro and once his skate is clipped theres only one outcome.

How does one lunge to make a poke check "cleanly", at a player skating across in front of them, without doing exactly what Stone did there? Also he DID complete the poke check, his stick making contact with the puck, but only after he "fell" onto Miro's leg.

And I'm curious as to what your definition of "clipping" is......Hintz's stick barely scrapes against Stone's skate prior to the collision - if anything, the penalty should've been on Stone for clipping, not a mere tripping call.

But again I'm not expecting anything from the DoPS today, just hopefully an update from Stars docs on how long Miro's expected to be out as a result of Stone's play.

-Star player
-For one of VGK/FLA/TB
-On a play that resulted in an injury

= No supplemental discipline, as is tradition.

If anybody seriously thought the league wasn’t rigged before seeing how differently Stone and Kucherov are treated than McDavid, hopefully the literal last few days has changed your mind. Though I bet Bettman and Parros never expected to have to so blatantly play Get Out of Suspension Free cards so soon after making an “example” of Connor.

There's too much outrage here. Stone is preparing to reach in for the poke check, leaning forward and gets tripped. Its not a big trip but it's enough with the forward momentum he already has.

This type of pokecheck is Stone's bread and butter in the neutral zone. Here's a video of him doing it over and over again (sometimes to poke check, sometimes to block a pass). You'll notice that he never falls in anyone's knee, because he never gets tripped while doing it.

Looked bizarre in real time last night while watching. Other angles clear things up some, but the play is still weird. Hockey is fast and on ice,. Stone is not a filthy player. Disappointed to see such a great player injured, but hard to cast stones at a guy who plays hard and has no history of nefarious on ice behavior. Shit happens sometimes.

I think Heiskanen should get 5 games when back for kneeing Mark Stone. Dangerous play....

In all seriousness, it's a clear trip and Stone is tracking the puck. Vegas haters are going to see what they want. Bad luck for Heiskanen.
I dislike Stone quite a bit (for his convenient injury timing rather than for his on ice play), but I agree, his skating is clearly disrupted by the trip. I like both Hintz and Heiskanen a lot more than Stone, and I think Hintz owes Heiskanen a full case of beer by way of apology.

Bro was doing anything and everything he could to get back on LTIR.. lazy, ugly, horrible player.

Goes back to the bench and starts laughing about it.. time for Benn to activate his stick on that scrubs neck again.

I'll concede that Stone got tripped up but he still lunges into Miro's knee for no good reason. That part was absolutely avoidable. I don't think there is intent to injure but it's a very stupid play. Would have no issue with him getting tuned up next time the teams meet.
He is clearly lunging for the puck. Watch his stick and line of vision.

I don’t get all the Stone hate. I’m not even a fan of his, but I don’t see any reason to dislike him. He’s a phenomenal player.

Gets tripped and can't move the direction he anticipated, so he kind of lunges in desperation given a split second to make a decision.

Unfortunate accident. Hope Heiskanen can recover 100% because the NHL is better when players as good as he is, are playing.

I'm sure there are a few reasons why Mr. LTIR himself has irked fans around the league over the years.

But yeah, that shot of him giggling on the bench after the play last night? Not going to sit well with too many Stars fans, I reckon.

Not sure what to make of this. Hintz definitely caught his skate but you don't often see guys fall so aggressively when getting a little toe pick.

Is there a clip of him smirking on the bench?

There are majors (and suspebsions) that result from hits that while not intentiona, are negligent

That was a major for clipping and the refs got it wrong

Yeah, it looks to me like he lost his footing due to hintz and didn't know afterwards whether to zig or zag.

Just an unfortunate play. Let's just give Dallas Ottawa first round pick and call it even.

What an idiot. Jesus.

edit: Just saw the 2nd video. Definitely looks like a trip. You can see how his skate becomes really unstable. So the Knights were actually hosed on that.
Honestly, I didn't read all 5 pages, but I've seen enough comments in here talking about Stone getting tripped....not even sure if it would warrant as a trip....maybe, but that's besides the point. I think he was trying to get away with something and use the little trip as an excuse to fall into the other guy and no one really notices......seems to have worked with a lot of people.

In real time looking out the side of your eye I can get it, but with everyone looking at the video replays and thinking he fell into the guy because of the trip? Did everyone fail physics class?

No no, Stone deserves the chair. Get out of here with that logic and examples.:laugh:

Looks like he was going for a diving stick check, then his skate got a bit tripped up and went in awkwardly. No one would do that intentionally (trying to dive to injury a player like that) bc he could easily be injured himself doing that with a knee to the head. Plus reply is slow motion, that happens all at very high speed.

Unfortunate hockey play. Not fan of either team or player.

I agree he's lunging at the puck but it's the sort of thing where it's a risky and dangerous play. There are lots of times where you can go after the puck but it puts others at chance of injury. Of course any play presents some kind of risk of injury but some are more so than others and the likelihood of Stone making a good play on the puck there is very low.

Hintz definitely tripped up Stone a bit but he lunged into Heiskanen's knee. To me, that's clipping.

EDIT: Should know better than to comment before seeing real-time video and other angles. Unfortunate situation, won't fault Stone much as he was compromised by Hintz's trip, just a bad result for one of my favourite hockey players.
Lmao the other angles of what? A tap on your skate when you're standing still doesn't cause you to lunge like that.

Why are we making excuses for this guy?
