WJC doesn't tend to be that big of a deal outside of Canada and (to an extent) the US. The Sweden games are probably at least somewhat well attended, but I can tell you even when I went when it was in Sask. it wasn't amazingly well attended until the medal round outside of the Canada games. Much better then we're seeing here, to be sure, but unless you're talking the Canada-US NYE game it wasn't packed.

You must've enjoyed singing the Star Spangled Banner after the Gold Medal game :yo:

And dodging flying Pilsner bottles being thrown in your general direction

Ended up taking that one in at a bar since tickets for that game were going for 2-3 times face value via scalper, and they had sold out of the allotment for the medal round package before I had ordered my tickets. Small American contingent of about a dozen in one corner of the bar, signing our heads off, with about 300 ANGRY Canadians glaring at us. It was epic.

No violence though, but had to make sure I had my jacket with me when we started up since it was about -30 out and I have zero doubts someone would have walked off with it if they figured out whos it was.

Canadians have an odd reverence for the World Juniors, kind of like the Euros do for the World Championships but I'd say more passionate even. You won't catch them watching much OHL or WHL or the Q, but when Boxing Day comes everyone is glued to their TVs and waking up at odd hours when the tournament is overseas. I've never quite understood it myself. One theory is that Canadians are fantastic front runners - you win six or seven times in a row, you grow closer to the event because you most likely won't be disappointed. Kind of shallow if you ask me.

Just gave it a look just to see and, damn, Comrie didn't even get the invite to the selection camp either, he was at the Summer Camp but nothing beyond that. That's just inexplicable. It's like they give more of a damn about what org a kid plays in (Detroit for Paterson, Montreal for Fucale) or how hyped they were in their draft year then they do how the kid is actually playing that season, at least as far as their goalie selections this year seem to have gone. There have been some exceptions over the years (Tokarski, Wedgewood) but I'll be damned if it hasn't seemed to play out that way over the past decade going back basically to Fleury over Ward.

God's country
prediction - four teams quite evident:

Russia - Gold
US - Silver
Canada/Sweden - ?

I don't see a Gold for Canada. lucky to even grab a medal IMO.

and Lindholm doesn't look to be injured.

EDIT: he just got hit behind the net. not even bad, but limped to the bench........he's ok....so far.

Special Teams are usually crucial in a tournament like this, and the US's are clicking on all cylinders right now, but I don't like the heavy reliance we've had on them for our scoring so far.

I think the US medals again, but I think the Russians or Swedes take gold. Would love to be wrong, but I think it plays out as:

Sweden
USA
Russia
Canada
