Coached a kid in high school whose patellar tendon snapped in a pregame basketball layup line. He was in agony and the simple action of landing while rebounding during warmup was the time it chose. He was in agony, and it wasn't too difficult to diagnose with his kneecap halfway up his thigh.

I tore my patellar tendon once, was f***ing awful looking down and seeing my kneecap had slid to the outside of my leg. Hurt like a bitch.

I just had a torn meniscus repair. Three months after surgery and still having issues going down the stairs. Staying home until my doctor clears me for work is a pain in itself.

I hope if it's a tear that they clean it out and not repair it. Clean out he can probably be back in a month or two. Repair depending on the complexity will take a long, long time.

I care less about how long he's out and more about the long-term comeback potential. If it's any sort of injury where he'll be back 100% either in a week or next season, I'll be ecstatic. The worst kind of news would be an injury, regardless of timeline, that has a higher likelihood of hindering his ability or longevity in the league.
This.

In a way, I actually would prefer a knee, achilles, or hamstring injury, even a more serious one, to a back or groin. I feel like these days, the surgery and rehab science has progressed to the point that athletes can make a full recovery from any of those first group, though it can take some time. Backs and groins, especially for goaltenders... unfortunately, those can be career altering.

I had this happen to me a couple years ago. I had to use my upper body to crawl and drag my carcass off the floor and onto the couch. Couldn't walk or stand up for several days. Sleeping was hard trying to find a position that didn't cause excruciating pain.
This laying down situation has happened to me. My back got hit so hard I bruised my ribs on thanksgiving. I drunkenly fell backwards. I didnt really feel until the next day when I couldn’t get out of bed. After trying I had to brace myself for the pain. I basically had to slide out of bed. The pain was so bad when got up I got lightheaded. I slept sitting up on the couch for a few weeks. Badly bruised ribs are no joke. It’s insane how much they’re involved in everyday movement and they take forever to heal. I still have a tiny bit of pain there and now I have a sorta click in under my shoulder blade. It was a huge nightmare.

I agree 100%. I don't care how long it takes. I just hope it's possible for him to be the same player he was prior to the injury.

There's potential for this to be something that he comes back from in a few days, or weeks, or months, or a season, or never. We really don't know.

I really hope it's not the case, but we have to brace ourselves for the news that this could be a potential career destroying injury. Especially if it's in his back.

He really, really has taken his lumps since joining the NHL. Seriously, he is always getting bumped/tripped around the net. Has missed starts due to his ankle last year when he was tripped (as well as exiting for a concussion protocol). Missed time due to the car accident. Then missed those first critical games in the bubble (the team was shot before the puck dropped, knowing their third string Hank was in and not their #1 Igor.) And now this.

I am having big doubts--even before last night--about his durability and if we can rely on him to be on our #1 moving forward. He's really looking like he is made of glass and that is not someone we can rely on moving forward. I thought we were set in net, and now... not.

Maybe I'm the only one that wants to say it, but he's proven to be injury prone and we need to explore options for a new #1. The sooner we admit this, the sooner we can find a real solution.

I really think this is over dramatic. He’s been available way, way more than he’s been injured at every level. And being hurt in a car accident has nothing to do with being prone to injury from playing hockey.

Well I'm with the small faction here that thinks if Swedish goalie Jesper Wallstedt is available when our turn comes in the draft we should take him. First if I were to bet he's going to turn out the best player in the 2021 draft anyway and second I don't think the center options are all that hot. They're much better in 2022. Wallstedt at 18 is 6'3 215 lbs. so he's built.

I think this season has most of us thinking “ knowing the worst will happen. Not expecting, knowing”. So everyone is in this overthinking mode and it comes out over dramatic sometimes. It’s not a good thing  but I totally understand.
