Miller is trying to get the best out of the team, better than being passively mediocre like Pettterson is ok with doing.
Debatable, but nobody knows the specifics of what's going on. All I know is we've seen Miller snap on teammates a few times over the years, so it wouldn't surprise me if he's the type of guy who wears out his welcome. Like the player equivalent of the Torts-type coach. Your co-worker being an asshole is no different than your boss being an asshole--at some point they make you want to stop showing up for work.

Easily trade Pettersson, he would also net a better return. Miller is the better player, the better leader and the more well rounded player despite being older.

Miller was directly responsible for 2 goals against last night when he just didn't feel like playing defense.

Pettersson isn't hurting you when he's not scoring.

1 game, Pettersson on the other hand hurts you in the playoffs by being a complete ghost.

Eh, it was one playoffs. He was great in the bubble. I don’t think there’s anything about Pettersson’s game that suggests he can’t succeed in the playoffs. His shitty play last year was a continuation of his play in the last 1/3 of the season. Pettersson isn’t a passive player when he’s on, so while his drop in play is a definite concern, if the team is confident he’ll get back to his previous level, I don’t think the playoffs should be a concern.

1/3rd of last season, all playoffs and all season this year after signing an 11.6m contract? If I'm Miller I'd be pissed too, completely mailed it in after getting paid.

I can’t imagine they’d trade EP even through he’s been struggling for almost a year now. EP has the talent level of a true #1 franchise C which is extremely difficult to come by. Miller is a strong player, a 1C light or great 2C, but he doesn’t have that superstar ceiling.

From an Oiler fan perspective, Miller is a much better player for them. I can't remember a single moment during the Oilers/Canucks series where I noticed Petersson. His contract is atrocious and is trending towards a Huberdeau type deal

This seems to be a common sentiment from Oilers fans.

Another Oilers fan said the following:

In our series vs Vancouver, we feared JT Miller. We feared Boeser, Lindholm, Joshua, Garland. We did not fear Pettersson.

Soft and easy to remove from the puck. He played with no urgency, no focus. It was like he couldn't wait for the off season. In our office, we called him Western Marner.

Miller played with a fire in his belly and he made his presence felt every time he took the ice.

In a series with razor thin margins, Pettersson's performance may have made that difference, and thank God that went our way.

Yep, depends how it’s communicated and Miller doesn’t seem to play up to such a demanding attitude. People seem to respect MacKinnon, for instance, because he lives what he preaches.

Anyway- I’d trade both, no joke. If you wanna win a cup- both these guys getting along could maybe do it, but by themselves neither is the guy, but both would have to be the guy. That never works anyways, I feel like- one dude gets traded, all the pressure is on the other homie, and then he eventually wants out as well. Whole thing is soured.

The poll results are how I know we’re at Hockey’s Future. Pettersson has a shitty attitude and has been trending down since his big season while being a bit of a prima donna while Miller is a hard nosed, old school hockey player who has continuously put points on the board, but at 31 he’s a full on liability around these parts. He may wake up unable to walk tomorrow at that age.

vote changed to miller.

nothing personal. He's gotten into beef with other players in the past, and it seems to be an occuring problem with him. Who knows who else he has beef with in the future. Despite everything if we have to trade one, it be Jt MIller at this point.

Pettersson has a shitty attitude
it shows how little non canuck fans really know about the canucks. You can't be further from the truth. A struggling player does not mean he "has bad attitude" good riddance.
