It's easy to make the trades/signings when you don't have people saying no.
But...if everything worked out, the way I'd hope.

Murray traded away...none of that stinkin' 1st rounder talk either.

Sign Matthews to this 'so called' team friendly deal.

Hopefully Willy is now happy to sign one himself.

Sign Samsonov to be our 1A with Woll.

Hopefully enough room to snag a 3C.
(Part of me feels Kampf is a safety net 3C)

Explore adding a dman with size/ability. Thinking Zadorov. (Maybe at expense of losing Brodie?)

Settle in for a productive first year, hopefully the different direction and full yr of growth within a beefier/heavier system pays off.

Honestly not sure how we get under cap right now. More has to happen. Murray to LTIR is a nice theory but you can’t assume that to be part of being compliant.

There’s the buyout Murray to save 4 million route, you assume settling with Sammy around 3, go 12-7-2 on the roster, you’re still short. And on the hook next season for four mil dead space.

Might be paying a steep price to move another bad goalie contract here, don’t like it.

Murry ended the year OFF of LTIR which doesn't help the Leafs case as he was dressed as the backup during the Florida series. So magically going back on isn't going to fly by the NHL and a medical report that cleared him last season baring a new injury.

I'm really interested to see how BT gets Leafs out of this inherited mess. :)

I think he is going to use Leafs prospect pool of smaller players drafted under a former GM to find a way for Murray to go away in trade. Murray already taking the Leafs off his social media sites tells me he was told he isn't likely coming back.

Worst case scenario Samsonov gets an Arbitration settlement to large for Leafs to absorb, have to walk away, and then rely on Matt Murray themselves this year. The fact that Sammy is taking the Leafs to Arb indicates that currently they're not close on term or $$.

Where does Robertson fit in on this lineup? Or do we pass on him?

Solution? Trade Nylander for a stay at home defenseman...Robertson takes his spot. Knies and Robertson shouldn't be 4th line fodder. they both should be top 9, Knies top 6. We need the cap space, we need a defenseman. And Willy isn't worth 10M.

Make this Austons team. He was the undisputed #1 pick, hes won the rocket twice, the ted Lindsey, the calder, the art ross..... And he's sharing a fricken A.

He's the only leaf who looks comfortable in post game interviews. He's the only core player who plays physical, he blocks shots, he stands in front of the oppositions net. He is excellent at faceoffs and defensively.

I think he would rise to the occasion even more and hold people accountable given a C. He seems like a guy who would take the responsibility seriously and hold people accountable. But unless management gives him that responsibility I think he will hold back.

I would have made my moves before July 1st. It's all a moot point now, let's be frank and honest.
This team will now remain Cupless for a few more years.

We can all hope for a miracle but Einstein was a pretty smart guy I'm told and his definition of insanity can aptly be applied to the current status of the Leafs.
 
Trade Ryan Reaves, Matt Murray, and a first for anyone who will take all their salary for a future considerations.

Only save $7 million this year though, and there has to be salary coming back, he's not getting traded for straight futures, somebody decent and their salary comes back. I mean, at least a 4 million winger coming back to fill the gaping hole in the top 6 Willy leaving would leave right?

If Willy is coming in asking for 10 for his next salary, sure fine, deal him, get a good D and okay winger is my vote, but doesn't help this years cap much, you are probably taking the same back, or at least close.

We will see if Ryan Reaves keeps others from going after Matthews and running our goalie. Simmonds didn't seem to help, but then again, maybe Simmonds would've been more effective if he wasn't on such a short leash.
