If the Panthers and Heat both win...

Besides being the first time the same city has the champions in both leagues, would this help or hurt the Panthers in terms of media and fan attention in and around Miami?

Myself I'm leaning towards help since I would think this first would itself become a story- perhaps even nationally, especially because ESPN has stakes in both.

I don't think it would really affect the Panthers if the Heat won. I think there's a pretty sizable subset of Panthers fans that don't really care about basketball.

If the Heat lose (pre finals only), Panthers might overtake them or the Hurricanes offseason in popularity for a bit. Dolphins and NFL in general will still be #1.

The Panthers operate out there somewhere in the ether close to or in the Everglades in the next county and you rarely hear them talked about or any sort of acknowledgement that they even exist. Sometimes you'll see a bumper sticker, but it's a far cry from one of every three or four luxury automobiles driving on Biscayne Blvd or Dixie Hwy having a Heat license plate.

I did see one restaurant showing the Panthers game the other night as I drove by. That was a first.

I was referring to the coverage they would get.

Would a Heat run make the Panthers irrelevant on local media or would the fact that two teams from the same city are playing for a championship make an even bigger story that helps the Pamthers garner more media coverage?

I think the small fact that the team is labeled "Florida" rather than "Miami" makes a difference. The bigger issue is the team being in Sunrise. I'd think they'd get much more attention if they were in Miami.

I'd wager close to half of the fans I meet at games drive across Alligator Alley or come down from Palm Beach, which is probably pretty shocking to people from out of the area. I live out in the swamp myself these days. You couldn't pay me enough to fight city of Miami traffic on a weeknight

Also, BMW or Lexus with Heat tags is pretty much the number one indicator in the entire universe that you are about to witness a high speed collision.

So, do you not out much? Every restaurant I’ve been in has had Panther games on. Most people I know are excited about both teams, and I see license plates and stickers all over.

Damn right about the BMW and Lexus drivers. It's weird how Lexus drivers seem to almost universally have the Heat plates and drive with the sensibility of toddlers. Can't say I ever frequent that type of bar, but I've been in single TV restaurants where they have Panthers games on. I've been places with a few tvs where people ask the game to be put on if it isn't. I've been places where I ask why the loca team playing isn't on as well, but you made it sound like it's nearly non-existent, that's just not true.
