If the Leafs waive Sammy does he get claimed?

Samsonov has been terrible this year for sure but he’s coming off a very strong year with no commitment past this season. A team would definitely take a chance on him.

I gave Campbell an extremely long leash and he ended up running a lap around the yard and biting me in the a**. Sooooo. I'm of the short leash variety now.

Sink or swim Sammy, you got 3 more starts to post 2 of out 3 above 900% or its to the gulag with ya.

Pittsburgh claims him and signs him to an 8 year deal
Oddly enough Jarry over the past 4 years when he became a regular starter is .002 percentage points from the top 10.

He has the 12th highest AAV so besides the term, the contract wasn't horrible.

Literally every thread imaginable you, all mods con and a select few others… It’s the same clown car who can’t help themselves but obsess over the old GM. Really weird behaviour

on an expiring contract he'll get claimed , probably Dubie to correct his massive f*** up of extending Jarry for 5 yrs at big money
5x5 for a top 10-12 goalie is far from a massive f*** up as you suggest.
Just can’t help yourself though, eh? 🤡 behaviour

Still think Samsonov and Bertuzzi to Edmonton for Kane, Skinner and Desharnis would be a great trade for both teams.

The bigger issue is whether Jones would make it through waivers when being brought up. They can't bring up Hildeby because he is far too inexperienced, so it has to be Jones and I am not sure he would clear which would really screw over the Leafs.

You need to clear going down, not coming up.

Bertuzzi = NMC, Edmonton isn't a desirable location.

The most realistic scenario is that Samsonov bounces back and ends up being fine. Whether he is ultimately the starter in the playoffs is a different story, but the Leafs aren't going to trade him for pennies on the dollar and rest their Cup run on Woll and Jones. Never going to happen.

I understand Bertuzzi has a NMC but he's also in a contract year and so far he hasn't produced at all while continuing to keep getting demoted to the 4th line during games. He might believe that he'll have a better opportunity in Edmonton.

Something I never thought I would ask but this is a continuation of playoff Samsonov only quite a bit worse. $3.55M isn't much for a possible #1 but its a ton for a brutal #2. Can Jones or Hildeby be any worse? Flame away because it is a defeatist reactionary take but I don't see a potential upside for sticking with him unless he has things going on for him outside of his game play that might explain the collapse. If he doesn't get claimed he gets a re-set with the Marlies.
Kudos to edmonton .tike to make goalies accountable

The expiring contract is what makes the notion at all possible. Does a team have the required cap space and need to dedicate to such a claim for the goalie position though?
The Hawks would take him, it would allow them to send soderblom down for development time (he does not need waivers). They have plenty of cap space and he still has upside

Bert would need to be "persuaded" to waive, easier than usual since his contract will soon be up. Limit his minutes and opportunities to play PP and no playing with our best players and that might help him decide. (Unless he has physical issues that we don't know about and he'll get better with more time here (hopefully)).

He has a one year deal so most likely.

Campbell is more like waiving Matt Murray

He would probably waive for any team in the states I think

Maybe we pump the breaks on waiving Sammy and calling up Jones

Sammy just needs more practice defending against Auston, Mitch, Willy and JT.

He’s in a funk and will come out of it.

Aside from the players, I don't like the incoming contracts.

Trading expiring one-year deals for three-year deals that don't look good.

If the contracts matched up, I would think about it. Otherwise, it just turns a couple of short-term problems into longer ones.
