Something I never thought I would ask but this is a continuation of playoff Samsonov only quite a bit worse. $3.55M isn't much for a possible #1 but its a ton for a brutal #2. Can Jones or Hildeby be any worse? Flame away because it is a defeatist reactionary take but I don't see a potential upside for sticking with him unless he has things going on for him outside of his game play that might explain the collapse. If he doesn't get claimed he gets a re-set with the Marlies.

That’s 3.55 mil off the books, would sure be nice if someone does us that favour

on an expiring contract he'll get claimed , probably Dubie to correct his massive f*** up of extending Jarry for 5 yrs at big money

The expiring contract is what makes the notion at all possible. Does a team have the required cap space and need to dedicate to such a claim for the goalie position though?

Maybe Sammy is allergic to his equipment a la Marian Hossa?

Then LTIR him and send him on vacation to Robidas Island.

He’ll turn it around, it won’t be in Toronto though. Goaltending is a very tough job. IMO everyone goes through something like this in life. He loved the high of winning the starter job and thought he was going to be the stud #1 goalie of an OG6 organization. Just to find out they’re not committing to him because there’s a more talented goalie than him in the organization, and now he sees and knows this battle he won’t win.

He is a mess right now, and would really benefit from playing a bunch of games in the AHL without the pressure of the Maple Leaf pressure cooker.

Its a long season, so we'll see how things go but if things stay the same by January-Deadline then his cap hit would be better used elsewhere, like fixing this crappy D we have. Him and Klingberg combined are close to 8 million, which could could help the team a lot, spread out to 2-4 useful players, especially with retention.

Samsonov would get claimed for sure. He's too young, with perceived upside and doesn't cost that much. And being a Toronto goalie, Edmonton would be right there at 2 to pounce, add to their collection of ex-Leafs.
