Maybe there are some over reactions but let us not forget your quote:

"And that is still exactly how I feel today. Ottawa is not competition for the Leafs"

I mean - do you watch hockey?
A year from now when people look back on this series and see that Toronto won in 6 games, everyone will say "yeah, that isn't surprising". You guys are just losing your minds because they've lost two in a row.

If you still think this is about losing 2 games in a playoff series in 2025, you REALLLLLLLY don't have a clue what's going on here, do you?

New the sport, or the Leafs, perhaps.
I know exactly what is going on. So many of you are scarred by the past that you think it dictates an outcome in the future. It doesn't.

They really don't have much of a choice. They've made their bed with the extensions and using picks to go for it. The time to rebuild will be in 3-4-5 years if things don't improve. It is what it is. Treliving will have a mess to clean up.

Who are the 23 people that voted yes...

I wanted it blown up after Montreal 2021.

I've wanted it blown up every single year since.

The first 3 games of this Sens series really had me believing they might be different.

Game 5 absolutely shook the core of my soul into confirming that they aren't.

We currently have a 3-2 series lead against a divisional opponent, which a glorious opportunity to dump them out on their home ice. And I can't even enjoy it, because it feels like there's existential dread around the corner about to absolutely unload the sort of trauma I'm just not equipped to handle.
I voted Yes, because the question is "what do you think (not want) will happen". I think they run it back due to the fact management thinks there are no better options. I have wanted the core changed up for years.

Marner will bail on this team 100%. He'll get whatever he wants from teams desperate to become a regular playoff team: Wings, Hawks, Rangers, Ducks, Utah, Devils (maybe), Carolina (maybe), Oilers (maybe), Tampa (maybe), Sharks (maybe).

If the Leafs lose this series. Well, I expect them to win tonight or game 7 (probably tonight) but NEXT round is where I don't think they will win. So the question is, should the answer be any different if they win this series vs lose the next one? or if they lose this one? I don't think so.

So what will they do? I think the answer is they will run it back, and that is probably the BEST answer. Is the team good enough to win the cup? Only with a lot of luck. But the mistakes putting this roster together were made in the past, you can't really 'fix' what is here now.

This is a flawed team, but the BEST chance of winning a cup in the next few years is to run it back. Maybe any given year this team only has a 5% chance of winning the cup, and a 95% chance of not winning it....but with the current core, the contracts, the cap space, that is the best I think they are getting until you have a totally NEW core. And I don't think that happens until at least 2026-27 at the earliest.

Now if it were me, I'd see if Matthews was even open to a trade to another contender, and if he was, I'd take highest bids for him and see what you could get. But I don't think that's happening.

They likely win this round, lose to Florida, and say "Progress, we won another round"

Of course it does.

The best predictor of future performance, is past performance.

Until they show that they are more than their past, their inescapable connection to failure is something that won't be overlooked - it's ridiculous to suggest that the demons of their past aren't rattling around in their minds right now.

Why wouldn't these guys on NMCs (mostly 34, 44, 88) agree to a trade to a desirable location if management wants to rebuild and the fans want them gone, this place will be toxic like never before, and they must be aware that they can't perform under this pressure.

I don’t think it’s 88’s problem. In fact, I don’t think it’s 16’s problem.

34 only has to lead Once to reset things. He’s not doing it. He’s not leading, with an A or a C.

Don’t forget the $19M dollar offer by Dubas.

The past....

Marner. 4 points in 12 games, of a game 6 or 7 in the playoffs.
Matthews - Five game 6's... four points. Four game sevens, two points. (6 points, 9 games)
Nylander Seven game 6's -> Six points Six games sevens, four points. (10 points, 13 games)
Tavares Four games 6's -> Three points, Four games sevens, one point. (With Leafs) (3 points, 8 games)

Leafs 1 goal in the last 33 PP’s in elimination games in the playoffs. (Since 2018)

Leafs are 1 win out of 14 playoff elimination games. (Since 2018)

Leafs have zero regulation goals from the bottom seven(eight?) forwards in this series. Only Tavares, Nylander, Marner, Matthews, Knies have scored in regulation so far... and as seen above, they don't really score in games sixes, or sevens as a collective.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does this dictate the future? No... but then, this group has pretty bad historical results in this situation, and we haven't been given any reason to believe somehow... this time is different. We'd all love for it to be "different this time"... There really isn't any denying, they've been terrible when it counts.

Do they have it in them... to actually flip the switch? I guess we are going to find out!!!

I hope JT moves on. I actually respect his playoff efforts and he seems genuinely driven to win. He could/should be an important piece on a legit contender but he can’t be the only high end guy with the will and balls to play playoff hockey. As an addition to an already quality core he would be an ideal target.
Do yourself a favour captain, go find yourself a genuine opportunity to win a Stanley Cup. A lot of people would be smiling watching you hoist that big magnificent bastard.

You think you know who's going to win tonight. You don't.

This is foolish when so much of this game is mental and psychology plays a huge role in sports. At this level, even the smallest details make a difference.

Like lots of other people, I think the Leafs will win. I just don't the past dictates the future, that's all.
Thinking something will happen is one thing, saying with certainty that it will happen is another. There's a thread dedicated to you and your idiotic predictions, funny how you're not mentioned by name yet everyone knows who it's directed at.:laugh:

I mean, behavioral science is based on exactly that.

When dealing with the same core who have not come through and blown it countless times, it is only logical and within full reason to expect they might do it again.

The hope lies within their revamped D and Stolarz. Add Berube I guess, but depending on the core is just tomfoolery

People will hate me by the third round in that Leafs/Carolina series.
I don't think anyone actually hates you. Your predictions are a bit of a funny meme and bring a unique dynamic to our board, but I think most of us actually like you lol. I guarantee @Gary Nylund would be sad if he didn't have the Evilhomer experience. While I find your takes over the top, I can at least appreciate that you're a fan of the team and not just some obsessive hater.
