I was born in Denver, CO. I grew up a Broncos fan in the 80's, which at the time was the most embarrassing team in the NHL. We were a laughing stock. Super Bowl loss after Super Bowl loss, in epically embarrassing fashion.

Which made that first Super Bowl victory one of the most memorable moments in Denver history. We never gave up on that team, and it finally paid off. Toronto deserves that feeling. And it will come.

Toronto can't even make it out of the first round though.

Will stop believing its possible with this four headed monster. No different than the last few cores built.

Of course Dubas will live and die still believing its possible and continuing shuffle the deck chairs on the titanic until the fan base demands his dismissal.

No, but my belief and optimism has definitely dwindled over the years .

Even with this series, we are the heavy favourites... but I never thought it'd be easy like some others (as we're clearly experiencing lol).

I love the Leafs and grew up in Toronto until I was 10 but let’s be honest: the city itself is trash compared to other big metros, house prices are astronomical, cost of living is very high, salaries are low for any professional/white collar designation like engineering or accounting, traffic is a disaster and people are rude to each other. I’m sure a lot of people myself included became fans because they are from Toronto/GTA. I imagine this might change in future generations as perception growing up towards the city changes. Toronto used to be much better in the early 2000s.

I recently visited Chicago and realized how much we get hosed up here. My same firm in Chicago pays 15k units of dollar more for the exact same position. Then you account for the fact that it’s in usd which is more of an asset when you’re travelling. Then you account for the fact that a full tank of gas costs me 33 units of dollar over there and 55 up here. I use units of dollar in place of the word “nominal” to make it more clear. House prices it’s not even a discussion. Traffic is much much worse in Toronto than it was down there.

Lots of us dare I say the majority cheer for this team because it is/was our home growing up. It just wouldn’t feel right to cheer for other cities. I imagine the team will have less passion towards it over the next generation or two as the city becomes more and more unliveable and the future generations don’t hold the same positive feelings towards the city that’s reflective of our experiences at least at a certain point in time

Definitely not, if you're a Leafs fan and have been around for any amount of time this is just another in a long line of disappointments.

That said, while I still watched pretty much every game this year I do find myself less and less invested. Part of it I think is the pandemic (weird time of year, no fans, limited opponents) but I dont see myself going back to pre pandemic levels of caring unless there are major changes. I dont plan on buying game centre next season for the first time since I've been an adult.

Although I am a Leafs fan, part of me must love the misery..

same. I've been a Raptors fan since Day 1. 2019 was glorious for those who lived through the days of Darrell Walker, Andrea Bargnani, and Hedo Turkoglu. The Leafs will win the Cup one day - it just might not happen with this core, but when it does, we'll look back on these days and laugh. The travesty isn't the failure to win the Cup - it's the failure to meet expectations. This is arguably the most offensively gifted team ever assembled. Irrespective of where this core ends up in 5 years time, people will look back at this roster and think 'what happened' and 'what if'?

With the 92-94 and Pat Quinn teams, we look back on these runs fondly because those teams played their hearts out. They didn't win because deep down we know there were better teams those years (except for 92-93, which was due mostly to the Gretzky non-call), but they gave it their all....with these guys, you can't help but feel like their output was 35 cents to the dollar. When guys like Matthews, Marner (yes), and Tavares (yes) are in the Hall someday along with Thornton 2 decades from now, we'll be wondering...what the hell happened? How did this team not win the Cup that year when they had an all-star support cast in Nylander and Rielly?

This is what is causing such a bitter taste for many of us Leaf fans

What's annoying are the blind homers.
5 years anyone on the boards that knows anything about hockey said the team was soft and gutless and needs changes. The changes weren’t ever made to the degree needed. The last two games are the big red flag. This game 7 is a turning point if anyone likes it or not.
They lose heads will roll right quick. Players and GM will be moved out. That’s their problem. I quit watch the Jays when AA got shafted. Don’t give two hoots about them, won’t buy their logo in any way and make sure nobody buts gifts of that for me.

I am a notoriously strong willed stubborn on my resolve except for can’t completely quit smoking. Maybe Leafs are just like smoking for me but i doubt it :)

I will completely dump them. Will miss all you on here if i have to lots though

It's so true. The lack of give-a-crap is the most insulting thing about last night. Let's see what they're made of tomorrow night. It's their last chance to prove to themselves, and to everyone else, that they can battle and win. Maybe it always had to be this way, I don't know.

Tomorrow night may be the most important game in modern franchise history.

Never.

I do think I'll give the Leafs less of my free night next year though. I think I missed 2 games this year, that number will likely go up if they lose tomorrow, especially as Ontario makes COVID progress.

If we lose I'll be less active

Won't follow the off-season to much if we don't deal out marner

Won't watch more than a handful of regular season games

Will watch playoffs and will be ready to be disappointed once more

Hopefully the leafs pull a Bruins and slay the annoying thorn in their side tomorrow

Cost of living increases in Canada as a whole are horrible. I just traded my F350 for enough wood to repair my deck :)

I would expect MLSE to start making the Raptors a priority, no more spending around the luxury tax but well above it.

Also no more blank budgets for the hockey ops. none of this signing bonus structures when none or very few of the other teams will do it.

Just reallocating resources to the Raptors rather than the Leafs. Invest in building the Raptors brand even more.

Well I guess what does being a fan mean here? If the Leafs lose I’m not cheering for anyone else. I simply stop watching hockey until this team advances to the second round, whether that’s next year or in 20 years.

The time and financial investment isn’t worth watching the same disappointing story repeatedly. Can’t keep talking about and analyzing this team every which way only to have the seasons end in the first round every single time.

Won't stop being a Leaf fan per se... if you ask who my team is it will still be the Leafs. However like many have said, my investment and time spent on the team will be much less. I will probably just skip the regular season next year, just box score watch, unless I have LITERALLY nothing else to do. Regular season means nothing anymore, so no need to pay attention.

I will be very unhappy with the team. Pretty angry too. But I fell in love with the Leafs during my first visit to Canada in the late nineties. Sergei Berezin scored an amazing goal in Maple Leaf Gardens and I was hooked for life.

You can't stop being a fan but you can certainly stop being as much of a fan imo.

I watched around 40% of their regular season games this year, I'd probably watch 20% next year and pay less attention in general. I have a Western conference team I'd pay more attention to, it's a shame to watch bad hockey when there are other great teams in the league.

No. I might take a step back, dial the intensity of my fandom from a 9 to a 7 or so. But I can't see myself every giving up.

I will never stop being a fan of the team but I stopped being a fan of Leaf management years ago. I wonder who allows them to make such stupid decisions. Just when the Leafs were on the verge of being a top team, they bring in a GM with no experience and from my perspective little knowledge of what it takes to be a successful manager in the NHL. I repeat myself, this is not a playoff hockey team.

Btw, my credentials for being a Leaf fan extend all the way back to 1967, to when I attended every game of the Stanley Cup Final. Besides the 3 games in T.O., I also attended games 1,2 & 5 at the Forum in Montreal.
