If the 2nd round teams could take a player from the team they just conquered, who would it be?

WPG - Binnington
DAL - MacKinnon
VGK - Kaprizov
EDM - Kuemper or Kopitar depending on how much they trust Pickard

TOR - Tkachuk
FLA - Hedman
WSH - Suzuki
CAR - Hischier

Edmonton is the toughest I think. I could also see Kempe, maybe Doughty if they're really desperate for defense.

Looking at you caps fans ?

Suzuki ?

Hutson ?

Take a chance with Demidov and make him play with OV ?

Anderson to bang other teams even more ?

Easily Suzuki for me. You win in the playoffs with guys who can be effective in all situations and that’s what Suzuki can bring.

Hutson is nice but he would be a bit redundant with Chychrun who plays a similar role. Ideally, the Caps would need a physical D to replace what they lost when Fehervary went down.

Demidov is too green still, he doesn’t have the same impact on the game as a guy like Suzuki for sure.

So this thought experiment comes up every now and again and going through the teams, there's fewer obvious choices than I thought. Going through some of them:

-Stars: when you just beat Nathan MacKinnon, it's awfully hard to not just take him no questions asked. Given that their offensive depth blows the defense out of the water however, I'd probably take Makar despite his subpar series

-Jets: Winnipeg could really use another legit offensive center. They could also really really use some insurance in goal. Crazy that it's come to this, but surely they'd take Binnington since whatever a Robert Thomas would do won't matter if Helle continues to be a sieve

-Canes: Jack Hughes stays injured of course, otherwise this whole premise would be ridiculous. Thus the Canes can't pilfer any elite scorer, though Hischier would help

-Leafs: Should take Tkachuk just to take various Panthers' heads off, but you gotta wonder where his loyalty would lie in a series against his brother and fellow shit disturbers Bennett and Marchand

-Oilers: another one that might just want another goalie for the off-chance Calvin Pickard isn't actually the chosen one. Otherwise, whoever the Kings' best D is

So, who'd they take? Who would get the biggest shot in the arm?

Do we get to keep the player? If so It's Tim Stutzle.

That pick might surprise you, you probably thought I'd take Brady Tkachuk but Tavares is 34 and eventually will need to be replaced and wingers are MUCH easier to get.

If It's just for this playoff run Ullmark is the easy answer because we don't know how long Stolarz is out and Ullmark is a Vezina winner he's a very good goalie and I'd want the insurance.

HM to Shane Pinto because he would allow Domi to move to wing full time

tough call between Hischier and Pesce. Nico would instantly give the Canes the best center depth left in the East, but Pesce was an absolute beast all series and has experience in the Canes system.
With Freddies injury history and the way Kooch has played lately it's Markstrom 100 times out of 10
