If the 2nd round teams could take a player from the team they just conquered, who would it be?

Take Markstrom. When we exit I know I will be blaming Andersen and/or Kochetkov both whom love to give up soft goals. Andersen has been good so far but I'm not disillusioned enough to believe anything other than our goal tenders are least clutch of about any team left in the second Rd . If we don't make the Finals, I'd bet the farm it will be off soft goals.
By taking Hirschier you make those soft goals less painful because we can score more as well. Markstrom also has just as much of a chance of letting in a soft goal (see game 5 period 2) plus he might take out our guys if he gets pissed.

So... can we have him? You guys have Hamilton, Pesce, Noesen, Haula, and god knows how many other former Canes hanging around there. We only have Hall as a former Devil. That's not fair.

3 of those guys played like sleeper agents in 2023 and this year, not fair either to us. Give us Svech to pair next to Bratt/Jack :sarcasm:

As a Habs fan, would be curious to see how dangerous a PP of McDavid, Draisaitl, Hutson could look like.
I think they get 3 pts/game minimum.
Hutson is great and all, but the Oilers don't exactly have a scrub back there on the PP. For now I'd stick with Bouchard as the better producer for them, his bomb complements McDrai more than Hutson's skating/distribution.

So this thought experiment comes up every now and again and going through the teams, there's fewer obvious choices than I thought. Going through some of them:

-Stars: when you just beat Nathan MacKinnon, it's awfully hard to not just take him no questions asked. Given that their offensive depth blows the defense out of the water however, I'd probably take Makar despite his subpar series

-Jets: Winnipeg could really use another legit offensive center. They could also really really use some insurance in goal. Crazy that it's come to this, but surely they'd take Binnington since whatever a Robert Thomas would do won't matter if Helle continues to be a sieve

-Canes: Jack Hughes stays injured of course, otherwise this whole premise would be ridiculous. Thus the Canes can't pilfer any elite scorer, though Hischier would help

-Leafs: Should take Tkachuk just to take various Panthers' heads off, but you gotta wonder where his loyalty would lie in a series against his brother and fellow shit disturbers Bennett and Marchand

-Oilers: another one that might just want another goalie for the off-chance Calvin Pickard isn't actually the chosen one. Otherwise, whoever the Kings' best D is

So, who'd they take? Who would get the biggest shot in the arm?
Srützle would probably be an even better option- or Sanderson.

As fun as MacKinnon would be, the answer for the Stars has to be Makar. A top 3 dman in the league, and he’s right handed. By far would fill the biggest hole in the lineup. Being able to roll out Makar, Heiskanen, Harley, and Lindell for 50 minutes a game would be insane.

It's not illegal to have both of them on the powerplay. One is a lefty and one is a righty after all.

Sanderson would do well with Carlo or Tanev.
I really want to say Brady since he would be killer as 2LW with Tavares and Nylander , that would be a cup winning top 6.
However Sanderson is really really good. If its just for this run, I say Tkachuk, if its adding that asset moving fwd I take Sanderson

It would be a worse powerplay. I'm not saying Bouchard is better than Hutson, but his shot opens up their options a lot more imo. They don't need more nifty passing. You either bomb it from the point, which Hutson doesn't do, or you give it to McDrai and let them work their magic.

Easy one for Canes....they would take Hischier as he is terrific and would solve their missing C piece beyond Aho.

Stars - McKinnon no questions asked. Was the best player on the ice basically every shift. Yes even game 7 give me McKinnon over Rantanen.

Jets - I'm taking some Brayden Schenn. Gives them better center depth.

Knights - Kaprisov a dynamite goal scorer is what they need.

Oilers - Drew Doughty. Buff the D.

Toronto - Tkachuk add a great winger on the left

Panthers - Kucherov just going to help them score goals.

Hurricanes - Nico Hischier honestly was tempted to go Bratt here

Capitals - Lane Hutson originally I was going Suzuki but then I thought to myself what if they add Hutson.

For the Leafs, while I believe Tkachuk is extremely overrated I still think he's a very good complementary player that can put a team over the edge. So it's between him and Sanderson for me.
