So is Florida, Habs and the Sabres, they will be the top 3 in the Atlantic. Ottawa, Bruins and Leafs will be in the a wild card race. Leafs could trade the core and restart, thereby putting them into a bottom tier team for years.
I have my doubts about the Sabres. And if like everyone says the Leafs are going to be a bottom team because well, look at this year, it’s just as likely that Florida is also a candidate. Age and injury and no goalie at the moment. Can’t have it all ways. The Leafs were a victim of very poor coaching that refused to adjust a system to match the players and turned the best scorer in The NHL into a third line checker. I don’t foresee these things happening again.

Add a top line winger, another top 6 winger, and one of the big dmen in free agency and this is definitely a team that will be battling for the top 3. Only team that is clearly better at this point is Montreal.

I think if they start selling the big boys they go wherever the best package emerges from. Those pics are gone I'm not sure they hold significantly more value than regular 1sts. Sure its a bad look for Toronto but that ships sailed. Now if they are able to acquire those pics organically/naturally, great but can you imagine the dynamics if they 1st they trade for Carlo somehow plays a role in Boston landing Nylander or Matthews or something of that ilk? oooph, egg all over the place.
The thinking is that a top 10 pick is a top 10 pick - absolutely something they'd want. They'd have some leverage on getting it back by threatening to send it to Philly if Boston doesn't want to send it back home.

sort of like McDavid? "I'll give you a year or 2 to get your shit together"
Extending for 2 years gives him the chance to sign another contract when he's 32 or 33. I do believe that he genuinely wants to win a Cup in Toronto, but I don't necessarily think he is a "play my entire career in one place" kind of guy. A short term deal gives him the chance to win here, but also the flexibility to try another team while he is still very productive.

Leafs are in for a long rebuild.
Why ? lol

Knies - Top line PWF
Cowan - Top 6 winger
McKenna - Franchise winger
Akthyamov - #1 Goalie
Danford - Projects to be a top 4 D
Koblar - projects to be a 2C

If need be, the return on Nylander being traded would bring in a haul. We're missing the next two 1sts which sucks but our pipeline is nowhere near as bad as some people claim it is.
