New York Islanders: If Isles win one of the 2 lottery spots, then who would you like them to select?

Who do you want to see selected?

There shouldn’t be any assumption that the team will be good in ten years, even if they hire someone good. At one point Lou was seen as the “right hire”, the team is currently playing in a new arena, and the owners spend to the cap. Here we are now.
I’m not assuming they will be good but I like their chances not to be bad. You seem to think the team will be bad and any free agent will leave.

So your expecting the Isles will never win during his career? Maybe you should follow another team.
Why should I? I’m a glutton for punishment. I’ve been waiting 40 years just to get back to the Finals. What’s another 10 more?

I’d only worry if the Isles picked 5th but even with a lottery win, that’s not in the cards.

Then again, if we win the lottery and then trade down to #5…
If we win the lottery we should start a goalie draft rankings thread .. I know I would certainly not want the next Gaborik or Heatley on my team … then we trade Sorokin for a young forward and a big dummy . History repeats itself

I like Hagens. The local factor plays a small role, but I've been high on him for a while. I think he will transition well to the pros and could help us sooner than later.
Hagens has a great set of hands, is a great set up man, and has played with Eiserman in the past. It would be a home run if we got him.

I voted for Misa though, I feel he’s the best player in the draft.

Wow, Canada is destroying Sweden in the final game, 5-0 after 2 periods. Brady Martin with 2 goals. Jack Ivankovic is working on his 2nd straight shutout. Jackson Smith has a goal as well, playing well in the final game.

I'm voting for Hagens - his speed tipped the scales in his favor. But I'd be very happy with Frondell or Martone as well.

Bettman: "Listen Scott, I'm ready for the Isles to get that Top 2 pick. It's time. We need a winning team here. We need a full Belmont Center. We need a legacy. And I'm not going to make the same mistake as we did with the Coyotes, who should've gotten Matthews.

There's nothing like a homegrown kid coming back to his roots and guiding his childhood team to the promised land... A player who pulls a Crosby and spends his whole career as the ultimate symbol of the face of his fave storied franchise, as the best player to ever come from the Island, no less.

So, Scott, it's yours under the condition that you select the Long Island-bred Islanders fan who has all the prerequisites. You take Hagens. It's best for the Islanders. It's best for the NHL.

It's as simple as that. Are you ready?"

Malkin: "That's nice of you, Gary. It is. And I understand your concerns. But the folks at HF Boards keep saying that one of Schaefer or Misa, if not the burly Swedish kid, should be the pick here. They say we've gotta go with the BPA. And it feels like half of them don't think the Long Island boy can be the BPA."

Bettman: "Ok, Scott, lemme tell you... This kid Schaefer ain't no Makar and was only ok at the WJC before getting knocked out for the season. Misa is so great at putting up junior-style points that Hockey Canada didn't invite him to the WJC OR the U18 Worlds. Think about that. He was available. Frondell looked great for a while but was burried in the 2nd league playoffs and let's be honest, the last time a Swede ended up playing like Forsberg was when his name was, well, Forsberg. Your HFBoards fanboys aren't even talking about Martone and Desnoyers, but neither is a Hagens.

This all said, for you to get the pick, it's for the purpose of creating the legacy - for you and for the NHL. That's the deal."

Malkin: "Really see where you're coming from here, but gotta go BPA and those guys at the boards are saying it's not Hagens. I'll have to decline your offer, Gary. Much appreciated."

Bettman: "Came into the season as the overwhelming #1. First liner at BC as PPG trueblood freshmen. Put up 9 points in winning WJC gold.

You really don't want to take a good long moment to think this over?"

Malkin: "Not necessary. They sound pretty certain. They've explicitly stated you don't take a player as a PR gimmick and that's what you seem to be offering me. So, thanks, but no thanks."

May 5th - NHL Draft Lottery:
Picking 12th overall.... The New York Islanders.

Picking 2nd overall... The New York Rangers.

Maybe Malkin did make the deal with Bettman?
