Title says it all! Assuming the Leafs roster was intact before any trades were made by Nonis this offseason, what do you think Brian Burke would have done had he still been GM of the Leafs? Would love to hear fellow Leaf fan's responses!

I don't know but if it's true that he would have traded Kadri for Luongo things would have ended up much different.

2nd leading scorer out. A better goaltender in.
Connolly and Grabovski not on same page as Carlyle.

Probably no playoffs again.

I would say we have Winnipeg's spot at 9th.

This off season no Clarkson since term is too long.

Not sign clarkson and that would have been enough for me to consider it a better off season

Flames incoming I know, but I've been a leafs fan long enough to know our track records with FA signings. This one smells bad from the begining, a contract that will be almost impossible for him to live up to plus leafs expectations plus our media =disaster

probably resigned armstrong for a 4x4, signed parros, no cooke though #noratsallowed probably wouldnt of bought out any1, would of gave liles another 5 year extension, wouldnt of traded for bernier, and probably would of traded for b shenn. But im pretty sure he would of still signed bozo and clarkson

Burke was actually recorded yesterday saying he liked the signing, and thought it was great for toronto.

I dunno maybe he's being nice to nonis or maybe he's being truthful since I just remembered he almost traded for Malone which was essentially the same contract

I watched him on tsn yesterday, he specifially said he loved the player and that the contract was decent, he would of liked it better at 5 years, but he said it would of been impossible to get him to sign that contract and that he still likes it at 7 years and hes going to be great for toronto

Does anyone think that if Burke were still GM that we would have acquired Bobby Ryan for let's say Kulemin + Biggs/Percy + 1st + 2nd?

considering we just traded 2 players for bernier, Id say no. We'd be running out of roster players and prospects in a hurry with that. Phil and ryan are basically a wash in terms of goal scoring anyways

He probably wouldn't have bought out any contracts, because that would be admitting he signs bad contracts like other GMs do and that would never happen. He'd use what cap space he had to resign the bulk of the team, and probably do nothing on the first couple days of free agency because he would be too busy with some photo op while volunteering at a soup kitchen or changing diapers on crack babies. So anybody who signed early, we wouldn't have. We would then end up overpaying for what was left, probably Penner and Garnet Exelby or something crummy like that.

Well if somehow randomly he was fired and then re-hired after the playoffs, could have seen him doing a few things the same. Clarkson probably would have remained a target for his style of play. After all this was a coach brought in for a Carlyle style of game and that's the coach Burke himself hired.

Maybe wouldn't have gone after Bernier, though might have actually tried to make something work for Luongo for all we know.

Probably would have tried to keep Grabo for another year considering that was the contract he handed out.

Few things the same, few things different.

Does the name Colby Armstrong not ring a bell?

Held a press conference before the free agency started, went on about belligerence, truculence, accountability, and the usual.

Then proceed to sign Ribeiro, Pouliot, and probably Maxim Lapierre.

Personally I think luongo was a nonis guy not Burke maybe burkes refusal to trade for him got him fired

Burke wouldn't have had to use any compliance buyouts because he would have easily traded Grabovski for Tavares and Komisarek for Weber. He also would have trade Macarthur and his first round pick to the Avalanche for the 1st overall in this years draft.

This is easy

Doubt Grabo gets bought out, which means no Clarkson and Bolland. Komi would have still been. Might have traded for another buy out candidate to gain asset(s). Resigned Bozak.

It's really impossible to say/know past that.

If Kadri for Luongo happened he'd probably have been fired after Kadri blows up in the NHL. If not I assume he would have held off on Bernier, maybe moved up to select Fucale in the 2nd round for a superstar prospect, Bolland deal would have gone through still imo just because he's a 3rd line truculent C that Burke wants. Burke admitted though that his philosophy wasn't going to work in the current NHL and was changing it so I think this free agency he'd have targeted Weiss, Ference, and probably some random right winger, maybe Jagr or Iginla to add a boost to the 2nd line. I doubt Grabo buyout would have happened, MacArthur would be re-signed, replacement would make Bozak expendable and not re-signed. Especially with those terms. In short, we'd be a much better team.

Honestly? Given Burke's track record on contracts (minus Komisarek) that probably would have gone over way better then Clarkson and Bozak. Beauchemin was paid fairly, Connolly was overpaid but had the appropriate term (2 years) that perfectly fit the plan, Ribeiro wanted term over money so he might not have been overpaid by Burke, Pouliot and Lapierre would be cheap additions to the lineup that would help fill roles in the forward lineup.

Oh yeah I remember that ever important cog in the wheel of TML's success..the character guy who was tough to play against and created space for his linemates. That Colby Armstrong who proved his worth by looking at the Leafs record with him in the lineup..oh yeah him..that guy who was so well liked by his teammates and the fanbase. The funny guy who really had some great tweets...

That Colby Armstrong who was signed by the Habs and stunk just as bad as he did with the Leafs and previous to that the Thrashers and Pens. That guy who the fathead brought on board and severely over paid?

No that name doesn't ring a bell.. Can we already forget about both Mr. Armstrong and more importantly that self important over rated loudmouth who got his ass canned because he thought he was bigger than the team, the franchise, the city, the entire hockey world?

Oh boy Toronto really misses that dumb-a$$
