Here's my pick...if I'm going outside the box and outside of the organization and the NHL

Spent 3 years as an assistant and the last two years as a head coach with a .620 points percentage and has his team just flying and in first place overall with a 29-9-2 record with two draft eligible goaltenders minding the nets. Second in goals for, tied for 5th in goals against.

Drew Bannister, Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds.

Fantastic coach

Thx Dom, if I can ask, what style of play does he prefer his team to play? I know nothing about him, it would appear, based on goals for that he has no allergy to his troops offensively while being defensively aware?

Why would Bazin be good at developing kids? Because he coaches kids in colllege?

Julien coached kids in Juniors and he was Coach of the Year, had something like .700 record and won the league championship. He was also coach of the year in the AHL, another primarily developmental league.

I'm just saying, "college coach/junior coach" or "young coach" doesn't necessarily mean they'll prefer kids. Bazin could get to the NHL and decide with his job on the line he'd prefer to play the vets.

We don't really know how a guy with no NHL experience will manage his bench/roster..

Good points, I have no issues going outside of the box with a Junior/NCAA coach and let`s also keep in mind, last night`s lineup featured 8 players 25 and under if that would be considered "young".

Here is what happens

Since they clearly play hard for this coach and no one has quit on him AND at least on the road they can play with and often beat anyone

Let him coach out

They have TWO bizarre stats among a sea of good

Worst backup goalie record

Bottom 3 in home record

If he doesn't make into second round

Promote Kevin Dean - he's the guy

Based on past performance, his team has about a 60% chance of making the second round and a 20% chance of getting past it.

that`d be a nice kick in the croutons to Cassidy, get "promoted" to the B`s as an assistant then have your replacement in the AHL get the gig...that`d be hilarious:laugh:

In his time as coach they for whatever reason have trouble in games at home including big game 7's.

Carolina
Washington
Philadelphia
Montreal

All home game 7 losses

He rides the kids very hard - Hamilton had an issue and other young players are tighter than a around him

They need 96 points and are at 49 after 44 games

47 points in last 38 can be done

My take is the Front Office knows he's not the guy to usher in the kids

They got 7 with the team - Pastrnak Vatrano Blidh Czarnik Spooner c miller Morrow

And he's pretty much dicked around with all of them

If they go on a losing streak and fall out maybe Cassidy or Sacco get an audition but they are to good to go on an extended losing streak

Likely what happens is they make or miss the playoffs by 3 points and unless he wins a round he's gone and Dean in the mix

Claude will resurface somewhere

Suspect Claude, if/when canned, is the first call of many teams but...the man has numerous lives, I could also see this team squeezing into the 8th spot, and the boys going into the 3rd round shocking the hockey world and CJ is retained for yet another year:laugh:

He's been reportedly close to being canned on 2 other playoff exits,so at least twice more his teams have not met expectations, but he found support somewhere.

I like Dean, but I'd be very surprised if he gets the job.

He was Cassidy's assistant for 5 years. Seems unlikely that they'd reach past Cassidy to grab his understudy after just one year as a head coach.

Don't get me wrong, I like what little I've seen from Dean, he runs a great practice and his team is doing well, but they value experience and seniority and Cassidy's been working with the team all year. I just can't see them making a move that has Dean leapfrog Cassidy.
