We're already paying those lazy firefighters to sit around and do nothing all day. At least we would get some worth out of them, not just have them as a drain on our taxes.

I'm expecting you're likely to get a retort from a firefighter or 2 on here shortly.:D

When I become mayor that will be my first budget cut. I will abolish the fire department and buy every citizen a garden hose (one of those fancy no tangle one's) and a ladder.

They'll learn.

Buy every citizen a medical textbook and farmers almanac while you're at it. What could go wrong.

We are approx the same age and I can echo your sentiments about the water quality.
My understanding these days is that the water quality has improved but it is still touch and go in spots for certain contaminants.

Here is an article showing recent testing for E-coli...

http://globalnews.ca/news/3666065/new-program-tests-whether-north-saskatchewan-river-is-clean-enough-to-swim-in/

I have had people suggest that its just mountain water but they seem to overlook the fact that this water travels 400+km (through multiple communities) from the mountains before it got to the city.

I just watched an Epcor commercial on CTV and they were telling people to fish and swim in the North Saskatchewan because it is clean. Maybe they read HFBoards?

Serious question, what exactly has changed in the city in the last 30 or 40 years that has made the river cleaner? Have we lost some industry that was a polluter or something like that?

It's really amazing how much work has been done since November.

I advise my 91 year old mother who still lives in her own home to make sure and vote for you.:D

It certainly was strange. It was during the news. I have never seen a commercial from Epcor like that. A voice over was telling us how clean Epcor is, etc. while showing some people fishing and swimming in the river.

Not sure why they would need a farmers almanac. As for health care, the province pays for that. Municipal, then provincial. All in good order.

It's this blatant seniorism that is holding our seniors back when trying to employ themselves. Climbing ladders is good exercise. Anything you can do she can do better.

Here is a link from the Epcor site with the top five myths concerning the river.

https://www.epcor.com/learn/river/Pages/mythbusters.aspx

One is the poor water quality. The water is rated high except for spring run off when the speed of the river and quality of the water suffers. The rest of the year it is good to go but to follow precautions because it is a river.

I couldn't find their commercial but there was a story of a hidden beach on the news.

Maybe the sixth myth is that Epcor can be trusted.

I was thinking the same thing. I mean I just posted an E Coli study and it was at dangerous levels in spots.

So apparently we should just ignore that.

Its all good folks...poor water quality is a myth despite the testing that shows otherwise. See...the commercial shows people swimming!

Not sure what water quality has to do with Ice district updates. Let's end that topic here please.

It'll be impressive to see how far away one can see Stantec Tower. My family had a farm west of Morinville and I could see several of the downtown buildings tops at the time, especially CN Tower.

It will be the tallest tower in Canada outside of Toronto.

The proposed Alldritt tower (builders' legacy tower), should it go as planned (they to tend to go sideways in the highrise market), would be at a whole new level.

When I read the first paragraph that this was situated on top of an old coal mine I assumed this was the site on 95 st and Jasper Ave that was left a giant hole more than five years ago. The article said the south side of Jasper Ave so I guess it isn't. I couldn't see the exact site for this tower. Where is it exactly?

I believe it's here, where the rezoning sign is. Those two boarded up apartments (or rooming homes) to the east will come down (if they haven't already).
