Post-Game Talk: I think this team might have some flaws

Big Em is our only reporter.

We live in a dark timeline.

Dolan's a bad owner, so most of us expected this. Like someone else said earlier, if it were up to Drury Panarin gets dealt earlier and this team is in full tank mode in 2023 to 2024, but he would have still given a goalkeeper 11.5m dollars just to watch a team have their doors blown off every night.

The guy running this show was basically the last one left after everyone got fired, and it's showing with his idiotic moves since being put in charge.

Speaking of Bread. Wasn't there a rumour that Drury wanted to move on from Panarin after the Devils series?

Probably, he was straight ass in that series. One of the most pathetic showings I've ever seen from a top player.

He was bad against Carolina the year before and he was bad against Florida last year but that series was just something else. To his credit, he bounced back with one of the best regular seasons in franchise history before another subpar (albeit better than the previous 2) playoff run.

I've always been under the impression that he wasn't really on board with bringing him on to begin with and quite honestly I can't really blame him. The timing of it was just so dumb to begin with. This isn't a hindsight thing, I've been screaming this from the hills since before he was signed.

It's only been further accentuated by his inability to get things done when they matter. If he were what his biggest supporters swore he was, we probably have at least 1 cup out of this core, flaws and all.

Doesn't all fall on him but when you're the top earner on the team, the expectations should match.

Somewhere, sometime before this moment... a true rebuild would've been preferable.
Some wanted that... me for one... @mas0764
Was another.

Plz don't take this as an "I told you so" post

It's not... We all want the same thing.

I didn't agree with Bread as great as he's been (reg season) but Trouba I did because at the time we had NO defense.

But rebuilding w those two moves combined was stupid.

Ken Holland? Do want guys who's prime was in the 90s or guys who are actually approaching their 90s? I guess Holland checks both boxes.

I will pass. Give me the capology nerd who has never played the game. I have seen how having a man who played the game and has all the "intangibles" has worked out.

And if one of you MFers dares bring up Mark Kessler in any role, I am walking away from all of you.

Does anyone care at this point who is more or less to blame? If we had a player with the actual pride and fortitude to do so, they’d ask out of this shit show instead of frantically fighting to torpedo any trade away from their cushy bromance(s). I won’t be surprised if Panarin ASKS to be traded this summer, and he’ll almost certainly kill his own value by only accepting to one team if we hold him til next TDL (we could get ahead of that…).

Does it matter if “this core shouldn’t get to fire another coach” or “Laviolette isn’t the problem, it’s Drury” or “screw these entitled players” or all, or none of those things? There is absolutely no player, coach or executive on this team that shouldn’t be movable, period. They won’t all be purged, but at this point it really shouldn’t matter if “Kakko is the least of our problems” or “Fox is the only elite talent we have” we should be listening on anyone. Including Igor, even IF that would be viewed as taboo around the league.

And let’s f***ing face it, damaging our reputation among the league MAY be bring us down to ‘just’ moderately more desirable than most franchises instead of the most desirable destinations for free agents. Shit, it might even be a good thing if not every free agent wanted to come here; save us from ourselves.

Also… why IS New York so damn desirable for free agents anyway, if not for a country club culture? One Cup in 85 years and counting. Some of the highest taxes in the country. The city is dirty, congested, full of tourists. The beaches aren’t nearly as nice as Florida or So Cal. The weather isn’t either. Is it really the culture and cuisine? Get f***ing real. My folks are bougie well off NYers who do the ballet and operas and all kinds of ritzy NY shit. They vacation in like New Zealand, Portugal, Italy, Napa, Africa, Sarasota, Italy again in a single calendar year. They’re not even close to athlete rich. These dude’s do not need to live in NYC to have “access” to culture or amenities. So what the f*** makes cold, dirty, congested, perennial losers NYR sooooo god damn desirable to free agents? Must be the tin foil hats they give out at the country club.

There isn’t a f***ing player on this team that should be untouchable. The message, publicly or privately, among NHL GMs should be “make your offers”. The end.

Also I’ve got tickets for Friday. I’ve got Fox and Zib jerseys, as well as Hintz and Oettinger. I’ll probably wear Hintz. The thing is, I barely give a damn whether the Stars win or lose at all until the playoffs, and then only because the more they win the more fun it is and they can’t play us. But I know for sure I’m going to have more fun watching Hintz than Zib or Fox.

Those that think Drury isn't the first to blame may have not had a brain in the first place.
I've been a pretty big Drury defender in wanting to give him time but it's been what, 4 years now? At some point the bad moves add up. He's an unmitigated disaster and I'm yet to see anything even resembling a plan. What's the best thing he's done, seriously? Probably the Trouba trade. Everything else has been bad or worse.

I would honestly take Vally in either a coach or GM role. He's overly reliant on analytics but let's try something new.
I feel like every button Laviolette has pushed this last month has been the wrong one. Kakko responded to his scratching by completely checking out.

There’s like, 5 guys still fighting. It’s almost better to strip this thing for parts, get picks, prospects, and cap space and do a proper rebuild.
I much more so enjoyed watching the rebuilding years because at least there was promise & kids/vets fighting for playing time. Those teams tried. It's much harder to watch a bunch of has beens and never will bes.

I don't know what Drury was smoking. It didn't work out but I loved the Blake Wheeler signing because it was free and he cost nothing but league minimum. To go out and trade assets for the same type of player who clearly couldn't play in Pittsburgh is a fireable offense in and of itself.

Hot garbage.
I remember when we got him I remember, I think it was in here, Penguins fans coming in here thanking us for taking Smith off their hands. I knew it was a bad sign.

Nothing almost about it. Imagine going into next season with Panarin-Chytil-Laf as your first line? Then some line built around Trocheck or Zib? Would Fox and Igor want to stay around for a meaningful rebuild (let's call it a multi year retool for marketing purposes)?

Media exposure.

Yes, yes. It's a drop in the bucket compared to the MLB, NBA, and NFL. But play elsewhere in the states, and there's practically no drop to be had with the exception of LA and Chicago.

As for the weather, f*** that shit! I'm sick and tired of people telling me about the weather in California, Florida, and Texas, especially Texas and Florida!

"Oh, yes! Give me the A/C in February, I thought the humidity was bad in NYC...and what's that? A hurricane? The 10th one? Sure. I'll board my home again! Oh, lovely! Another 100+ degrees today!"

Can't walk butt naked down in the South, and not that you'd want to as things tend to droop and sag.

Cold? Easy. Layer up and vodka.

And btw Drury knows it's over. The shot of him at the very end of the game today made that clear. He knows there is no fixing this team. All talk about trades to fix this mess and save this season is just pr smoke. He knows the team needs to be built up again from the studs and he knows chances are he won't be the guy who does it.

I lay in bed prior to checking the score musing over potential results. Maybe they won? Hmm, overtime perhaps? No... I bet they got shut out.

And lo and behold! I didn't realise Nsh were the worst team in the league though!
