I think Islanders are the dark horse of the East this season.

Good win by the NYI. The Leafs are truly pretenders.
I don't know about that, but they remind me a lot of the Penguins of recent years. As much as Toronto's forwards are better than NYI's, NYI's goaltending is that much better than TOR's.

As a NYI fan, I have very little confidence going into the playoffs as a WC, because I think both CAR & BOS are happy playing tight hockey vs. NYI while trusting that their superior talent up front will eventually break through. Penguins and Leafs both seem to try to force it, which leaves them open to NYI's strikes off of turnovers.

In terms of pure chaos, imagine NYI-NYR and TOR-BOS semi finals?

That would be intense.
Im going To be honest I see the leafs folding before the semis. Talk about a team thats not even close to built for the playoffs. A bunch of perimeter players isnt going to cut it.

I'm going to be honest, I don't see NYI beating Boston or CAR/NJ either, but it's fun to imagine.

Leaf fan here, but I agree with your post. Most likely getting swept in the 1st round. Goaltending is just too terrible. Also, the core flops in the playoffs as we have all seen.

The NYI has a top 3 goalie duo in the NHL. Both of them are capable of stealing a series.

Hot take: this team is gonna beat the crap out of the Canes in round 1.

Pelech is their most underrated player. Its BAFFLING how many people forget how important this man is to their defense.
The only teams in the east they’d struggle with in the playoffs are Boston, Tampa and Carolina. For some reason the Isles can never figure out a way to consistently beat the Canes. If the Devils beat Carolina and the Isles match up with the Devils in round 1 and the Rangers beat Carolina, they have an extremely good chance to go to the ECF again. Rivalry games are always ones they show up in with a healthy roster.

The canes don't have Svech. They can easily upset that team. Also the 2019 series was BS.

They could but Carolina knows how to play shut down hockey. Similar to the Islanders play style. NJD and Toronto like race tracks and the Rangers are a team who feeds off of special teams. You grind teams like that down and guys will be scared to go near the boards and handle the puck.

Define extremely good chance. They’d have a less than 50% chance of getting out of the 1st round.

As in confidence that they can beat both the Devils and Rangers in 7 game series. Neither team seems to give them any indication that it’ll be a massive hill unlike what Boston has been rolling with this year. Last weeks 5-1 game vs NJD was more of a playoff atmosphere than the ones back in October that the teams matched up with.

Lol. “5-1 game”. Two empty net goals. The Islanders team stinks but have a great goalie. There isn’t a team in the east that they’d be favored in a 7 game series.

They severely outplayed the Devils that game. Toss in the Toronto 7-2 embarrassment the same week. To say that they wouldn’t be favored vs anyone is comical. They’re also currently playing without Barzal who has some of the top possession stats in the league.

Considering how the Devils still lost 3-1 (in your books) and in convincing fashion, nah.

Delusional take to say dominated the game. They had the same number of high danger chances and lost the xG battle. Anyway, there is no chance they’re a betting favorite in a playoff series barring major injuries to a team. No question about it.

I’m not even looking at betting odds since they’d probably have Buffalo with better odds to make the playoffs at this point. I’m just talking the eye test from actually watching. Game could be 3-1 but the possession and faceoffs show quite a bit. Isles are back to a slow first and just downright dominant in the 3td again. Teams who can play a grinding physical style have been proven to go further in the playoffs than the softer speed reliant teams. The playoff style game a complete 180 from the regular season. This is why I’m saying a good chance to go back to the ECF. They’re not a complete pushover like you’re trying to make the team look like.

A speed reliant elite rush offense team won the cup last season. Nothing will ever change the narrative that you need a team filled with grinders to win in the playoffs.

The Islanders aren’t a pushover, they’re just a very mediocre team with a special goalie. If they win a series it will be because of the goalie. Their chances of getting to the ECF is very low.
