I think Islanders are the dark horse of the East this season.

Dude I’m about as chill a person as you’ll find on this earth. I started one thread to cheer my team on and to keep it neat I don’t start other threads to clog up the main boards. I’m actually from Boston as well and named my company after a metro Boston town. Boston University graduate and went to school with Chris Drury and Keith Tkachuk. So if my Isles don’t make it past the Bruins I’m probably rooting for them. There were years when I took a break from my Isles and was a Bruin fan. In fact worked in the same rehab medical center where Cam Neely had his hip replacement.

This is just smack talk. Don’t take it too seriously. I love Boston. I love the people and the city. I just want to see my team go up against the very best. I wouldn’t want it any other way.

They will make the playoffs if they continue to play the Pens so they implode every 3rd period and gift wrap the Islanders the win.

Felt like the 5th time this year it happened.

At this stage its realistically NYI or FLA for the final spot. PIT will get in unless they totally tank. FLA has 5 gimme games, NYI has about the same, will probably come down to which one of them flugs more of those games.

It's normal for teams to get outshot with a 2-goal lead. (Especially against the heavy Islanders). The Penguins weren't horrible. But like so many recent NYI-PIT games (including in the playoffs), NYI get exceptional goaltending, and PIT gets below-average goaltending. Sorokin gave his team extra chances to tie, and then (eventually) win the game. I don't watch PIT games when they're not against NYI, but it seems like PIT must simply be hopeful their goalie doesn't give up more than 1 soft goal.

How much more can the Florida Tkachuk’s sustain the ratness down the stretch? There’s only so many cheap shots Matthew can give out before someone knocks his mouth guard down his throat.

Lets go Isles!

I think they can beat the Canes if thats a 1st round matchup.

Canes didnt do enough at the deadline and are always too cheap/conservative to be actual contenders.

Cringeworthy?

I would have no problem playing Tampa again. lol

All that being said to put that tweet in perspective, Tampa won their division and Islanders were about to beat the Bruins to go on and face Tampa(this was 2021 when they had a weird division alignment)

Todays 7-2 clobbering of the Leafs without the Islanders top 2 forwards in the game embodies what the Islanders are all about. Hard teamwork and discipline. Totally dismantling a league favorite. Great win. 9-3-1 going down the stretch without many key players throughout that run.

Kind of embarrassed the Leafs tonight. Or was the lopsided score more a reflection of what the Leafs have for goaltending?

They can’t play team defense and always being scared to get hit led to too many give aways. The score was accurate. This is playoff hockey. The Leafs are not a playoff caliber team.

This is what this thread was all about. The difference between playoff caliber teams and smoke and mirrors. Teams like the Leafs are just mirage. Come playoffs they are going to implode again because their core has remained the same.

The core of the Islanders is built around teamwork and discipline. Even without their best 2 forwards they can beat what many consider the better offensive teams. Defense wins championships starting from the goaltender out.

I thought leafs played great first period but the second the Islanders tied the game in the second they just seem to let up. making tons of mistakes. All that being said we see this pattern alot where Islanders get out played in the first and by the second and third the game turns

Soroking and the Isles play hard, get some key offensive guys back and who knows what happens. One game, but the Leafs wanted no part of it.

Apparently their key to success was playing without Barzal.
The silver lining behind that injury was it forced Lou to look at what the Isles had down in the minors which brought them Fasching and they got to see what Holstrom could do. It also brought in Engvall who brings speed to the Isles lineup and another player who can keep up and help shutdown the speedsters in the game.
